<Varda edit:  Please do not start new threads here.  Advanced Lore is a showcase forum.  This is the Forum into which discussions which have been started elsewhere, and developed to an advanced point are moved.   If you have seen a thread that you feel is worthy of being showcased here, list it in this thread, as Bear explains below.>

The purpose of this thread is two-fold

  • to nominate topics for move into this forum.  The thread can originate anywhere in the point generating forums, and be moved here for further
    discussion and development.
  • to discuss a topic you would like to start in this forum.

Please note, the Plaza is not the same place it was when it began, we have new voices in the dialogue, and they have new ideas and want to express and explore them.

True, some of the threads doní;;t achieve the standard the Forum has set for itself...and when they doní;;t they are removed without fanfare.  Often this removal is done at the request of the initiator of the thread, sometimes it is done at the request of other participants...but however it is done, it is accomplished with compassion and privacy.

Ladies & Gentlemen:  Not everyone has the same intellectual abilities, nor long-time acquaintance with the Masterí;;s varied works.  But everyone on the Plaza shares a love of Tolkien,  and that is what is important.

As long as this Forum is nominally under my supervision, any topic within its purview which shows a potential for excellence, and in which the members discussing that topic do so in a manner befitting polite academic discourse ...it shall be allowed to remain.    I may not agree with the hypothesis as stated in the thread, and the topic  under consideration may not be to my personal taste, but if the discussion is in the spirit of Tolkiení;;s "applied applicability"...then all I can say is "Doní;;t participate if you doní;;t want to."

POLICY CHANGE (Posted by Blackrose Bugg on 12-28-04)

At my request, Mo has removed the New Topic button from the Advanced Lore Forum.  This was done out of simple reconsideration of the facts as they exist.  We were unable to stop people from starting new topics by any other means.  Most of the people whose topics were moved were either accepting of the fact, or disinterested in the topic enough to never have noticed the change.  Those in the first group bear my gratitude, those in the second, my sympathy for what they have lost.

This was in no way an attempt to curtail those of you who open threads here, either through prior discussions with an admin, or those that open sequel threads.  However, the technology is distressingly black or white.  So what we would like you to do when opening either pre-approved or sequel threads is to begin the thread in Basic Lore, then post a quick note in Admin messages requesting the move.  (Much as you used to do to have Basic Lore threads moved OUT of Ad Lore).  The admins will move it into Ad Lore as soon as they see the request - but be sure to explain briefly - this is a continuation of an Ad Lore thread- or this thread has the approval of ***.

I apologize in advance for the inconvenience that this will no doubt impose - but feel that in the long run - removing the button that allowed such advanced topics such as Legolasí true age, or his motherís name to be opened here in Ad Lore will be a true benefit in the long run.

If after a reasonable trial period - this proves to be unwieldy or more inconvenient than tripping over misplaced Basic Lore threads, let me know.

One other request- I have noticed that the vast majority of threads nominated for Ad Lore comes from the Basic Lore Forum.  There is NO prohibition against nominating threads from People and Races, Places, Tolkien the Man, etc.  ANY sufficiently advanced thread should be considered for Ad Lore, regardless of the forum in which it originated.

Thank you in advance for your understanding!

I think this thread on Healing is going to be stellar- and Ashen Shugar is a proven scholar. I suggest it is watched carefully to see when it should be transferred to AL.X(
