Years of the Trees
(All dates for this era are given in the Valian Years, lasting 9.582 Years of the Sun)

1050-1100 Awakening of the Fathers of the Dwarves.*
1250 Coming of the Great Dwarves over the Mountains to Beleriand. (Preceded by coming of the Petty Dwarves.)
1300 Menegroth is built by the Dwarves of Ered Luin and the Elves of Doriath.
1350-1495 Runes of Daeron, later used amost exlusively by the Dwarves, are invented.
1497 First Battle of Beleriand. Dwarves issuing from Mount Dolmed waylaid Orcs fleeing north from Beleriand.

I Age

8-20 Trade contacts between Noldorin folk of Caranthir and the Dwarves begin.
52 Finrod Felagund starts building Nargothrond, previously a settlement of the Petty Dwarves, aided by the Dwarves of Ered Luin. At that time, Nauglamír is made.
468 Union of Maedhros against Morgoth is formed. Elves are aided by the Dwarves in both weapons and armed force.
472 Nirnaeth Arnoediad, the Battle of Unnumbered Tears. Azâghal, Dwarf-lord of Belegost wounds the dragon Glaurung, forcing him and the other dragons to retreat, but is killed himself.
502 Mîm, the last of Petty Dwarves, is slain by Húrin. Húrin brings Nauglamír to Doriath, and Elu Thingol summons the craftsmen of Nogrod to remade Nauglamír to contain the Silmaril.
503 Elu Thingol is slain by the Dwarves of Nogrod as a result of the quarrel over Nauglamír and the Silmaril. Doriath is invaded and sacked by the army of Nogrod. The returning army is ambushed by Sarn Athrad by Beren, aided by the Elves of Ossiriand and the Ents.
550-597 The War of Wreath. Some Dwarves join in the war against Morgoth. Nogrod and Belegost are ruined.

II Age

c. 40 Many Dwarves (Firebeards and Broadbeams) leave their old cities in Ered Luin, and go to Moria.
c. 1500-90 Seven Rings are forged by the Elven-smiths of Eregion instructed by Sauron.
1697 Eregion laid waste. Durin sends the forces from Khazad-dûm to aid Elrond overwhelmed by the armies of Sauron. The gates of Moria are shut.
3434-41 War of the Last Alliance.

III Age

1731 Birth of Durin VI.
1832 Birth of Náin I, son of Durin VI.
1934 Birth of Thráin I, son of Náin.
1980 Balrog appears in Khazad-dûm and slays Durin VI, King of Khazad-dûm.
1981 Náin I, son of Durin VI, is slain by the Balrog. Khazad-dûm is deserted. Thráin I becomes the King of the Durin's Folk.
1999 Foundation of Erebor by Thráin I.
2035 Birth of Thorin I, son of Thráin.
2136 Birth of Glóin, son of Thorin.
2190 Death of Thráin I. Thorin I becomes the King of the Durin's Folk.
2210 Thorin I moves the royal house of Durin from Erebor to the Grey Mountains.
2238 Birth of Óin, son of Glóin.
2289 Death of Thorin I. Glóin becomes the King of the Durin's Folk.
2338 Birth of Náin II, son of Óin.
2385 Death of Glóin. Óin becomes the King of the Durin's Folk.
2440 Birth of Dáin I, son of Náin II.
2450 Birth of Borin, son of Náin II, ancestor of both Balin and Gimli.
2488 Death of Óin. Náin II becomes the King of the Durin's Folk.
2542 Birth of Thrór son of Dáin I.
2552 Birth of Frór, son of Dáin I.
2560 Birth of Farin, son of Borin.
2563 Birth of Grór, son of Dain I.
2585 Death of Náin II. Dáin I becomes the King of the Durin's Folk.
2589 Dáin I and his son Frór are slain by a dragon in the Grey Mountains. Thrór becomes the King of the Durin's Folk.
2590 Dwarves are driven from the Grey Mountains to Erebor by cold drakes, and the royal house returns to Erebor. The settlement in the Iron Hills is foundered soon afterwards.
2644 Birth of Thráin II, son of Thrór.
2662 Birth of Fundin, son of Farin.
2665 Birth of Náin, son of Grór.
2671 Birth of Gróin, son of Farin.
2711 Death of Borin.
2746 Birth of Thorin II Oakenshield, son of Thráin II.
2751 Birth of Frerin, son of Thráin II.
2760 Birth of Dís, daughter of Thráin II.
2763 Birth of Balin, son of Fundin.
2767 Birth of Dáin II Ironfoot, son of Náin.
2770 Sack of Erebor by Smaug.
2772 Birth of Dwalin, son of Fundin.
2774 Birth of Óin, son of Gróin.
2783 Birth of Glóin, son of Gróin.
2790 Murder of of Thrór, King of the Durin's Folk, by the Orc chieftain Azog. Thráin II becomes the King of the Durin's Folk in exile.
2790-3 Mustering of the Dwarves.
2793-9 War of Dwarves and Orcs
2799 Battle of Nanduhirion (Azanulbizar). Dáin Ironfoot slays Azog. Death of Náin of the Iron Hills, death of Fundin, father of Balin and Dwalin, and death of Frerin, son of Thráin II.
2803 Death of Farin.
2805 Death of Grór.
2841 Thrain II goes wandering
2850 Death of Thrain II in Dol Guldur and loss of his Ring. Thorin II Oakenshield becomes the King of the Durin's Folk in exile.
2859 Birth of Fíli, son of Dís.
2864 Birth of Kíli, son of Dís.
2866 Birth of Thorin III Stonehelm, son of Dáin II Ironfoot.
2879 Birth of Gimli Elf-Friend, son of Glóin.
2941 Quest of Erebor. Battle of Five Armies. Death of Thorin II Oakenshield and his two sister-sons Fíli and Kíli. Dáin II Ironfoot becomes the King of the Durin's Folk .
2989 Balin goes to Moria.
2994 Balin and Óin lost in Moria.
3019 Siege of Erebor and the (Second) Battle of Dale. Death of Dáin II Ironfoot. Thorin III Stonehelm becomes the King of the Durin's Folk.

*Dates for awakening of the Dwarves are highly conjectural. The lower limit is based on the date of awakening of the Elves. The upper limit is approximated from the date coming of Teleri to Beleriand (1128), since the Petty Dwarves are said to have been there before Teleri, and there must have been at least 2-3 generations between awakening of the Dwarves and exile of the Petty Dwarves.
