This will showcase the work of all artists who presented work for that month's theme
with the exception of the winning Artist of the Month who will be featured in our other
new permanent gallery.

Cermië 2005 (July)

Remembering Hirillonwe

There was no contest for this month - instead we celebrated the great talent of Hirillonwe who was sadly taken from us a few weeks before. This is a record of the work his own drawings inspired in others, including thought, memories and poetry.

To see Hirillonwe's own marvellous artwork please go HERE

Servy walked up the stairs and into the EAA, a tear running down her cheek.  She followed Laifana and  stopped to look at the beautiful works of art that were drawn with skilled hands.  As she passed each display, her tears flowed more and more freely.  "I cannot match Hirillonwe's talent nor do I even have the strength at the moment.  Hirillonwe, was a wonderful elf, and I will miss him dearly."  she said though choked by tears.  "I cannot think of anything to say that can justify such a devestating loss."  She said and wiped the tears from her eyes.

Every time we loose someone close,
A condolance is offered.
The idea that "They are in a better place,"
seems to bounce from thought to though,
But what we now feel in our hearts cannot be mended.
For now we have lost a loved one,
And now we gain the pain of losing.
Although we feel we cannot stop the pain of death,
Life carries on, in those who remember,
In what has been accomplished,
And in the lives that such a life has touched.

We play with the life of the Eldar, but true fragile human life is all too short, and it is difficult to fathom when it is snatched away so quickly. I did not know Hirillonwe save through these images, bright flashes of the spirit that remain after their maker has departed, quick but well-defined sketches that seemed to shimmer with vitality, with power at rest or in movement.

I would like to invite our artists not only to honor Hirillonwe with words, but also to celebrate one of their own by creating and sharing pieces he might have enjoyed, inspired by his work: of heroes, of swords and armor, of the dark and light forces that clash in the world of LOTR that brought us together.

Hirillonwe did such an amazing job of capturing heroism and nobility in his sketches. I remember well that picture of Glorfindel. It makes him seem so graceful and elegant in battle, like a dancer. It seems to me that Hirillonwe really understood and conveyed a sense of what Elves are.

I can't do anyone justice with a brush in hand, but with a quill I just might be able to express what's in my heart...

Flowing lines upon the page
Together take flight
In a few strokes
Bring beauty to life
Everlasting life

Many of you will remember Hirollonwe, who sadly passed away last month. Most of you, including myself, will certainly remember his work which was full of liveliness and skill. I regret that I had not found the EAA in time to know this talented young man better as, if he had survived his illness, he would no doubt have continued to impress us here in Rivendell and on the rest of the Plaza for many years to come.

Remembering Hirillonwe

I did not know you,
Yet I felt you touch my heart.
I never saw your face
But I heard you breathe
Life and care onto frail paper
With grace and passion.
I never spoke to you,
Yet your images tell me
They were drawn with love.

I can never meet you
Yet still your mind
Beguiles mine.
You never knew of me,
But still I feel kinship
As I sense the sure
And skilful stroke
Of your pencil on the page.
I wish I had known you, friend.

How do I know your spirit
Found joy in this life?
Through those sinuous lines
You leave in your wake,
Your soul must surely sing
You on your way.
Sail away Hirillonwe.
Go to your rest knowing you left beauty
For us to remember you by.

Beyond is more than memory
They tell us. Yet memory
Shall hold you here, the closer
For your works that stay, that speak
Of who you were and what
Your shining gifts.
You shall not pass from Elven hearts
Nor human minds.

I was always struck by Hirillonwe's great talent and passion for art. He had a good eye for detail and a wonderful way of sketching roughly, but with great depth. I loved every masterpiece he created, for he drew from within. He enjoyed depicting great heroes - strong and brave - and I think they reflected the spirit of the artist. He had to battle with his own burden and I think he managed to portray that in his art. May he rest in peace, for his art will be missed.

I didnt know him at all...but seeing his work...it kinda makes me sad inside....for him dying....Such a talented soul...I love his pieces...They almost speak to you...telling you a story of the one whom he captured so wonderfully with pencil, and paper

The Breeze

Cool, not so much a hug,
yet sometimes warm, as the summer.
Rustling about the trees,
painting pictures for the mind with ease.

Rustling the leaves on forest floors,
receeding sometimes,
yet sometimes has no remorce.

Scaring small critters below on the ground,
now whats left is the aftermath which surrounds.

He was truly gifted, wasn't he? I am saddened that I did not get to know him, but I guess I get to know him a bit from his fantastically drawn art pieces, and that is enough for me.

The Lonely Stallion

Among the clouds he roams,
its mane flowing freely as he goes.
The white steed flying in the air,
So alive without a care.

Nothing to hold his spirit down,
except when he lands to the ground.
Then returns back to his stall,
and sleeps the night away till dawn.

I did not know Hirillonwe well, but I remember being impressed and inspired by his works that I saw when I first came across the EAA. I admired the intricate and noble poses and the unique style he put into his pieces. His abstract yet defining sketches seemed to embody his character. His drawings continue to live on and speak for him, even though the artist himself has passed. Seeing these pictures has once again inspired me to create something, though this time in his memory, a piece that I hope I can complete soon.

These pictures are beautiful, they are so simple in the pencil but such an affect is created. I love the way loose, flowing lines are used to give the impression of long robes, it is truely stunning. While I never knew him it is a shame that he has passed away, and the loss of his great talent is yet another blow.

I have to admit that I know nothing about the person. But as they always say,. Art talks. The drawings stun me not only because of how beautiful they were, but also the emotions they evoke in me.

Firethwen

These are wonderfully expressive.  I am sorry that we and the world suffered this loss.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Hirillonwe. However, one truly amazing thing about art is that it allows us to get to know a person and admire him even if he is not with us anymore. I want to use this opportunity to say this - Hirillonwe, wherever you are, thank you for making such beautiful drawings. Your work has sparked the kind of inspiration like I haven't felt for a long time. Thank you.

Wow, Hirillonwe was such an amazing artist... I feel so bad that I did not have the chance to know him personally. I am glad however that we have his art to share, it’s like we have some of his spirit still with us.

Nildedúlindilmë

I remember seeing Hirillonwe's artwork in every EAA thread. He was a great artist and I always thought that a great future awaited him, in RL and in the Plaza. Sadly he never ventured into other threads and I must admit I did not know him well.  However his drawings never ceased to amaze me. There isn't words to descirbe them, only as real. Often I felt that his pictures were actually reliefs on my screen, not drawings. I remember reading the note of his brother here and I am still shocked. I remember him saying that he was in a hospital but I did not know it was this serious. The memorial thread is a wonderful thing, though very little what we can do for him.

In my mind I had created a poem in honour if Hirillonwe. Slowly it was formed into a real poem, though very short. If I may now, I would very much like to post it here.

Hirillonwe, we shall not forget you

Hirillonwe, we shall not forget you
Your work was magnificent,
Your words were kind,
Your future full of light.
You helped us out,
But there was nothing we could do
To in turn help you out.
Now we stand by your grave,
Hoping you’re in better place.
Navaer, mellon nin.
And fare thee well, Hirillonwe.
We shall not forget you.

Tinessael

I must say that though I did not know Hirillonwe well I was always awed by his art, and it saddens me greatly to know that I will not be seeing more of his wonderous works.  As of yet I do not have a picture but I hope to get one up before the end of this month in honor of him.

Fly

As I look to the western sky,
Give me wings that I should fly.
O’er the clouds, past this rain,
From this place were I was lain.
To starry skies and rising sun,
My story now has been spun.
Forget me not and love me still,
You still have your life to fill.
As bitter tears run their course,
Forget not that I go to life’s source.
So as you look to western sky,
Pray me wings that I may fly.

I did not know Hirillonwe, but am saddened to hear of anyone passing on & leaving behind those that love them. Thanks to everyone for sharing their art & poetry. A very lovely tribute.
