Alarm bells rang loudly, calling their warnings through the valley. As craftsmen, farmers and artists run for shelter in the house of Elrond, the battle hardened guardians of the valley emerge from their barracks. Orcs have been spotted near the river Bruinen, coming in great numbers to kill, maim and plunder the fair valley of Imladris. Thanks to the scouts and sentries of the host, the Beriadrim regiment of the Host stands ready to meet these foul invaders.
Sitting high atop in the trees, the Beriadrim Archers can pinpoint their targets from a great distance. Their powerful longbows outreach anything the enemy can throw at them, and the archers rain death and havoc on the foul hordes, who are unable to do anything but hide behind their shields. As they clear the fords of the river Bruinen, the archers leave the trees and give cover to each other as they regroup further in the valley. The horde think they are free to invade the fair valley, and with no more arrows flying at them, they start to get reckless and run down the slopes into the valley, where they are once again met by a rain of arrows, and a line of steel..
Standing side by side, the brave Beriadrim Footmen form a line of steel to stop the advancing horde. As the archers, safely standing behind them, rain arrows on the horde, the Beriadrim footmen tighten their ranks and form an impenetrable shieldwall. The weakened horde of orcs decides to charge at the wall of elven shields, which will cost them dearly. The Beriadrim footmen hold their ground as wave after wave of orcs crashes against their shields. With the superior swordsmanship of the elves, the dazed orcs are easily cut down. And should an unlucky elf fall, the soldier behind him shall quickly take him to safety as another takes his place in the wall of steel.
The Beriadrim has two units. They all fight on foot, but their well trained infantry is not to be underestimated:
Beriadrim Bows:
Armed with powerful longbows, the Beriadrim Archers can send a hail of arrows up to 350 metres towards an enemy. Behind a naturally defensive position, or an infantry shieldwall the archers can discourage any attacker. They are also excellent ambushers, being able to go where horses can't. Equipped with a quiver containing 40 arrows, the Beriadrim Archers also carry a shortsword so defend themselves in close combat.
Beriadrim Swords and Shields:
Equipped with mighty longswords and sturdy round shields emblazoned with the symbol of the Beriadrim, the infantry swordsmen can form massive shieldwalls, chop up a dispersed formation or fight in close combat. While they are not as effective against cavalry as spearmen, Swordsmen have the upper hand in individual duels and close combat. They are also equipped with a dagger which they carry in a sheath on their boot.
