<< Listing of Imladris Elves

The Host stands ready upon the rolling fields of the valley. In front of them just on the other side of the plains stand the foul hordes of orcs and other minions of the Dark Lord. The Host however does not falter, for the light of Eärendil guides them on this day of battle. The metallic clang of steel on steel, the snorting of impatient horses and silent whispers of eager horsemen sound in the air as the Othrim regiment, the Cavalry units of the Host prepare themselves for the order to attack. The soldiers of the Othrim regiment are trained to fight with their horses from the day they join the army. Whether they are part of the archers division or the swordsmen division, the use of their fast and powerful horses makes them a formidable opponent to any army.

First, the fast moving horseback archers of the Othrim regiment move forward to harass the enemy horde with a hail of arrows. Using the stamina of their horses, the Othrim Archers remain fit and alert as they dodge in and out of reach of the enemy archers, now raining arrows on the enemy troops from all sides. Should the enemy horde try to retaliate, the great speed of the horses provide the Othrim Archers with a swift retreat back to safety, where they can regroup and start again. But just as the enemy horde starts to get seriously annoyed by these archers, the Othrim Swordsmen charge.

The Othrim Swordsmen combine the fine art of elven swordplay with the speed of cavalry. While they can defend themselves if they are knocked off their horses, their power lies in the speed and power of their mounts. A well timed charge of these valiant horsemen can scatter an enemy formation in mere seconds, trampling anything in their path. Even if the charge is finally brought to a halt, the superior height and the reach of their swords make any opponent hesitant to fight a melee duel.

The Offensive Regiment has two units, and while they are all cavalry, they each have their own role and use:

Othrim Bows:
The Cavalry Archers are fast and agile. These archers can easily outrun an enemy, or flank them. They can either pick out wandering targets, cause confusion, prevent an enemy from retreating or just hit an enemy hard and then quickly retreat before the enemy has a chance to get a good aim. Othrim Archers are also armed with a longsword for use in close combat.

Othrim Swords:
Armed with a longsword, these riders can quickly chop op a formation of weakly armoured infantry units, but are also very effective against enemy cavalry, archers and siege equipment. High speed and mobility makes them hard to hit by enemy archers and can easily outflank or cut off fleeing enemies. The Othrim Swords troops are also equipped with shields bearing the Othrim Emblem, and a light spear for use in charges. Both are carried on a strap across the horse’s shoulders when not in use.
