Dínrothion
Dion
Dínrothion was born in Gondolin, in the last years before the Fall. His
father was named Táraarátoion and was related to Glorfindel, of the
House of the Golden Flower of Gondolin. His mother was named Manundomeiel
and Dínrothion had also a sister and brother named Thingaladiel and
Eglacamion.
When Dínrothion was still an Elven Child, Maeglin betrayed the
secret Gondolin by telling the secret hiding place of the city to Morgoth,
the biggest enemy of the free races. The reason he did this was because
Tuor, son of Huor, had married Idril Celebrindal, the woman Maeglin loved.
Morgoth promised Maeglin the throne of Gondolin and the hand of Idril.
Though Morgoth attacked the city, some of the Elves could escape,
together with Glorfindel, Tuor and Idril, and Dínrothion himself. His
parents and brother and sister were all killed in de city. Tuor
killed Maeglin, throwing him off a cliff, right before Tuor and his wife
tried to escape from Gondolin. In the pass named Cirith Thoronath a Balrog
together with some Minions attacked the small group, and Glorfindel gave
his life to protect them, and he killed the Balrog, though it was to be
his own death. Many years later Elves are still singing about his heroism.
Finally the small group ended up in the dale of the river Sirion, and they
founded a place to live, named Nan-tathren, also know by the name “Land
of the Willows” in the common tongue. The sons of Fëanor, Maedhros, Maglor, Amrod and
Amros, attacked what was left of the Elves of Gondolin. While trying,
Amrod and Amras both died, and Maedhros and Maglor never found the
Silmaril they sought, because it was taken by Elwing and brought to the Shores of the
Sea, and together with the Silmaril, Elwing jumped in the Sea.
The only survivors in Nan-tathren were Dínrothion, survivors of Gondolin, mostly
children and women, and the few Elves of Sirion. But some of the other
children died soon, because they were wounded and didn’t have any food to
survive. Finally Gil-Galad entered Nan-tathren and took them all to Balar.
Dínrothion lived there until he reached adulthood, and then he start
killing the Minions of Morgoth Bauglir. Many years passed by, while
Dínrothion didn’t have his own house, or even his own bed. Though some
years before the War of the Ring, in which he participated, he settled in
Rivendell, and there he still is. He got married with the beautiful Elven
women named Princess Gia and has two children, Niniel and Aredhel Fëanaro.
