Lady Shadowdawn

I am of the Noldor, born in the land of Aman, in the city that crowned Túna, Tirion. I was born only a few years before the darkening of Valinor. I do not remember my parents nor their name for it has been many ages. I have called them many things but I shall give them the names Isil (moon) and Vasa (sun). My parents lost many friends and family to the lies of Morgoth. They swore they would help Fëanor purge the lands of Middle Earth of his evils. We crossed the sea with every intention of going back, but alas, that would not be. For in my heart I knew I would not see that land again. Our arrival was a sad one, twas not but two days before we were attacked by orcs. Some of the survivors scattered, I being one of them. I was neither old enough nor skilled enough with a blade to do anything but. I wandered the lands of Middle Earth for many years. I saw the Awakening of Man and the growth of the world. Tired and lonely I tried to make my way back to the sea. Nevertheless, that was not what Illuvatar wanted of me, for he brought me to the forest Fangorn.

It is there that I stumbled upon the Ents, the children born of Yavanna’s want. Many were intrigued for others of my race had come and talked with these forest creatures. Cold, lonely, and tired I fell into a deep sleep in the middle of an open glade. I awoke in a large cave, with one of these fine creatures worrying over me. Cinquefoil was his name. He had the deepest most thoughtful brown eyes. He took me in that day and became my father. He re-taught me the language of my kind and many other languages he knew including the voice of his people. The others of my kind left the forests and again I was alone. I relied on my father for both knowledge and comfort. Alas, I could not learn everything from him. When I was ready, I ventured forth to explore more lands.

I traveled to all the lands. I learned much from many, the Numenoreans, the Easterlings, Gondolins, and many others. During my travels, I met a Numenorean named Angarato. We traveled and learned much together. He was kin to Amandil and his sons; counted among the Faithful. Secretly we met as in those days meetings with the Eldar were forbidden by his king. We made a life together in the forest of my home. Many times, we traveled to the sea. When a shadow came over his heart, he traveled to Elenna. Years later, I was told of his deeds and how he perished helping his kin. I have mourned him for many years.

Fifty years before the forging of the three another of my kind found his way to my woods. At first, I was weary of him for news had come to me about a deceiver who traveled in many forms. Soon I found that he was well learned not only in the lore of our people, which I knew little of being that I was not raised with my kind, but also of the languages of other races. Beside Angarato, he was the only man that could equal me in swordplay. We lived for many years together in the eaves of the forest content to be only with each other’s love. My grandest moment was the birth of my eldest son, Lionstar, in the year 1570 of the Second Age. When our son was but two years old, my love came to me with ill news, a shadow had fallen upon not only his dreams but upon his heart also. He had planned a journey to find the answers to this darkness. Parting with his son was the hardest thing he had to do.

Thirteen years later Lionstar grew into a fine son. He had much skill with the bow as a hunter of animals but I felt the darkness coming and heard news of it, it was time for him to learn to fight. I was pleased when he wished to follow in my footsteps and take up the sword rather than improve on his skills with the bow. I taught him many things about swordplay and secretly wished that Angarato were there to teach him also.

When word reached us that Sauron the Deceiver had taken Eriador, we made plans to seek out others of the Noldor, our kin. Making haste, we made for the refuge of Imladris. Elrond welcomed us into his house and taught my son many things. There we both learned for the first time the love of our kind. Lionstar was allowed to apprentice in the Smithy, while I studied the Lore of the Noldor in hopes to find any of my long lost kin. On my part, I failed. There was no record of my family. The longer we stayed in Imladris the more my heart yearned for the forest of my home. I wished for my son to return with me but he had made up his mind to stay and fight the Dark Lord. I gave him my blessing and made him promise that he would return to me.

It seemed like centuries had passed since my leaving fair Imladris, and I had not seen any of my kin save my father and my Ent friends. One autumn day I was hunting near the eaves of the forest and the plains of Rohan when a fiery beast grabbed me up. At the time, I was confused as to why I was not burning and why I had not been killed already. The beast put me down and bowed to me. I looked into its eyes and saw those of my husband. He had returned to be after all those years. I wept desperately not caring that he was now a servant of the enemy. He told me of his journey and how he had transformed into this creature, -=Melkor=-. With all the darkness in his heart, his love for me kept a part of him good. Three years passed before he had to return to the service of the Dark Lord. Two months before he left, we found out that I was to have another child. Again, it saddened him greatly to leave me in such a state. In the winter of that year, I have birth to twins, Mekorian and Elvendra. As I watched them grow, I knew that my young son would follow his father’s path to the service of the darkness.

When my children grew, I brought my daughter to Imladris so we could celebrate the birth of Arwen Undomiel. My son Lionstar was there also and I told him of his father’s fortune. He cursed his father. We stayed together in the home of Elrond for many years. Finally, Lionstar had the urge to travel and learn more of the world, much like his mother. He bid farewell to his mother and sister and went on his journey. Here is when he met his wife that bore him a son. Later on this same journey, he too embraced the darkness like his younger brother and his father who he despised greatly. Of his torments, I shall not say, for he has talked little of them. Heed the magic of a mother’s intuition, but still I shall not speak of his dark days. After Lionstar, left I traveled back to Fangorn.

With all my children grown they had began their paths in life, I again I traveled and learned more. I came back to my home when I received word of the Evils that began to cross the lands again in search of a band of friends. I stayed with my forest friends until the March of the Ents. There I helped end the foul orcs of Isengard. After making sure the forest was safe, I traveled to Imladris. I have finally rejoined my fellow elves.
