What's Imladris? |
The Plaza has nine different kingdoms, in which we bring to life a little part of Tolkien's world. Imladris, or Rivendell, is one of the Elven realms of Middle-earth, where we can pretend to be Elves. We have many games, clubs, teams, and tons of other fun activities you can join, each with an Elven or Middle-earth theme!
How do I play? |
Each kingdom thread -- the topics you see listed in the Imladris forum -- is an activity! The TOP or FIRST post explains what the activity is about, how to play, and any rules you need to follow. Read the top post carefully, read what members before you have posted in the thread, then add your own post!

Where can I introduce myself? Where can I ask questions? |
Go to the current Newbie Hall at the top of the Imladris Forum and say hello! We have many members there who enjoy greeting newbies and answering questions.
I'm lost! Where are easy places to start? |
The Newbie Hall is the best place to start. Feasts and Daily Life RP-threads are good kingdom threads for beginners, where we roleplay Elves and visitors gathering to socialize. Try some of our simple games like the Caption Contest. If you're creative, you can read and post works in the Bards & Writers Guild (for writing, poetry), or the Elven Artists Association.

What can I do in Imladris? |
Here are descriptions of various activities that you may find in Imladris.
May I start a new thread? |
Sorry, no, you need permission from the rulers to start a new thread. You can post your thread idea for the rulers to see in the Chamber of Audience.
I have a great idea/comment! Where should I put it? |
We love listening to ideas you may have to improve our kingdom, although until you learn your way around, you may discover that we're already doing what you suggest! Post your suggestion or comment in the Chamber of Audience, and our rulers will review it and get back to you.
Who are the Rulers of Rivendell and what do they do? |
VardaElbereth is Lord Elrond and Loriwaynen is Lord Glorfindel. Their job is to keep Imladris clean of spam, help and encourage kingdom members, and make it a fun, fair, and lively place to play. Rulers are responsible for deciding what can and can't be done in the kingdom, and for resolving member disputes. To learn more about their responsibilities, visit the Plaza Mission & Vision FAQ here.
Are there any rules I need to follow? |
Just follow the guidelines listed in the top post of kingdom threads. Also, please observe the plaza-wide rules for Member Conduct.
How do I lose points? |
You lose points if you spam or break the rules and have a post deleted by an admin or ruler. Look back at recent threads where you've posted for messages explaining why.
How do I gain points? |
You gain points by posting in Imladris, by winning contests, or by good participation in many Imladris organizations and RPGs, which rulers reward by giving "tribute".
What is spam? |
Spam is meaningless, off-topic, or disruptive posts. Spam includes:
- adding extra characters, such as punctuation, to make your post long enough to get points
- posting a whole bunch of smileys
- posting the same thing in more than one place
- hogging a thread by posting too many times and not giving others a chance to play
- not following the rules or theme of a thread
Spam is usually deleted, often with points taken away, and repeat spammers may be suspended from the plaza.

- RP ~ Roleplaying, taking the role of a character who lives in Middle-earth and writing him/her in a story together with other members writing their characters

- IC ~ In character, writing from the point of view of your Middle-earth character

What are SCRS, special ranks, those fancy icons some people have? |
Special Character Ranks are icons given by rulers to members in recognition for great participation, and making Imladris more enjoyable for others! SCRs are held for one month. People may choose to roleplay the character they receive.
Where can I learn elvish/Quenya/Sindarin? |
We have a Sindarin Page where you can learn more about Sindarin, the language spoken by the Elves in Middle-earth. The plaza's Middle-earth Languages forum is a great place to ask questions and discuss the Elvish languages. The Ardalambion website offers tons of information about all the languages Tolkien created, as well as a Quenya course.

What is the Host of Imladris (the Army), and how do I join? |
The Host of Imladris is a group dedicated to the safety of Imladris. They go on quests, have many different competitions and the occasional war with other kingdoms. To join the army you need to sign up at the Host OOC thread located in the The Last Homely House subforum. Let them know your name and which troop you want to be in and you're in!
How do I roleplay? |
Roleplaying is playing make-believe. You create a character, and then write what your character says, does, and thinks! See Roleplay Basics for a quick introduction to get you started, or Getting the Most Out of Roleplay for in-depth tips, dos and don'ts!
