Guilds and Groups

Elenaro looked at the building in dismay. Such disrepair was highly ironic for the Imladris Architect Guild. He smiled as he remembered the first day he had joined. He had met Aikanar for the first time, and had known the pleasure of designing something beautiful and wonderous; something that with care would last throughout the Ages of Middle Earth.

He turned and started to walk down the path, and reflected upon how this ruin had come to pass. There was really no reason for the Guild not to flourish; it wasn't as if there was a lack of designers or builders. He noticed others passing casually by the closed Guild House, and wondered at the lack of attention they paid. Then he turned and looked at the Guild House one last time, wondering if it would open again.

I would like to thank Aikanar for the effort he has made to make the Imladris Architects Guild function. He had devoted time and effort to make it run; sadly, however, there was insufficient activity to keep it alive. Maybe it was because the Eldar are sailing westward. The Guild was open to all. Again Aikanar I appreciate the effort you made toward running the Guild and hopefully it will be up and running again with active participants.

There have been a number of activities keeping the Army occupied, some of which are less popular than others, but all worthwhile. We have renewed interest in the Shadows of the Past, which has brought to light companionship and new friends. Then there is the Maze, which has reached a climactic period, in which all are finding their own difficulties. There is a positive glow emanating from the Host which is in itself, a heartwarming feeling.

In the Shadows of the Past, the combined groups of Elves from Lothlorien under Arod's command, and the Eldar from Imladris, under Rilómë's authority, have made great headway. Elenaro has mostly recovered from his injury, and the group is moving at a faster pace. Rilómë is no longer the sole commander of a decent sized company, and others are making friends. It is a great time to share, and meet new faces. There are a number of groups in this combined force, in which friends have been made.

Others have continued on with those they know, and yet comraderie wins in the end. The company has fled the open plains, for the shelter of Mirkwood. Dodging trees, and felled logs, they have made a camp in safety. But rest is never assured, and spiders love Elf flesh.

The Maze also has its finer points in which glory has been achieved and death is knocking. There have been quite a few close calls in the Caves. Legolas's group is currently contending with Trolls, and wargs are far more abundant than have been. There is room for growth as a warrior, and ties of friendship strengthen as fellows help each other through injury, and danger.

The Army is not quite flourishing, although with more time, effort, and participation from all ends, it has the potential to be an amazing experience for all involved.

Saluting the chain of command, and all Soldiers.

Mae govannen mellyn, and welcome to the Bard's Guild (report).  We currently reside within the Hall of Writings where friends and those who have a mind for song and verse gather to share their works.  The falls still play their music with great amusement, and even a few special visitors have come to enjoy the works of the artists gathered.

This month we have been blessed for the first time in a good while with the presence of the great Bard Lindir, in the company of his friend Elenaro Fireblade. We also received a visit from an old and much missed member of the Guild – the lovely and wise hobbit Blackrose Bugg, who was met with great delight by some of our older bards. Along with many others, there have been some really great songs performed, some of which were commissioned at the behest of our Father of the Guild, Galen Aranor.

The reason for that is because our dear Adar Govannas has just commenced writing an ambitious series of biographies for the Imladris Library, Beginning with a treatise on the life and times of Lord Glorfindel, Galen will be including verse, songs, anecdotal stories and also artwork to help illustrate and breathe life and passion into his lore-based writings, which he hopes to be the first of many such works featuring many other famous folk from all the long ages of Middle Earth. Our good friends at the EAA are also involved and we hope to include as many collaborative works as we can, in what we are calling our ‘Breath of Life Biographies’ serie, to form a unique collection in due course.

So come and join us in the Guild Halls of Govannas in Glirdain, to share your work, your passions, and of course, if you wish for a quieter day, to simply enjoy the day in pleasant, some might say inspirational surroundings, just listening to the songs and tales or perhaps writing some of your own work outside on our peaceful, flower-fragrant terraces in the soft summer breeze.

The aphador level class has come to an end. All of the students are prepared now for the final test, which has been given out. Minestor Ancalima and Tanestor Tinessael have to check them, and are still waiting for some of the answers. In the next issue we may know who our new aphadrim truly will be. I know new candidates are waiting eagerly for the new class, but as class 4 has not yet finished, no new classes can be started.

Inside the Adab Nestad building ithings are quiet at the moment. The taidors are mostly busy with cleaning, and most nestor are weeding the gardens. The weather is good outside, a good balance between rain and sun. The flowers are blossoming. Koranti, who was being treated by nestor Idhwen, finally woke up; after two more weeks of recovery, he has left the house in good health. Also Legolas has been treated by Tinessael and has left now to continue his duties as a soldier of Imladris. The healing rooms are free once again.

We also had one exciting event. Nestor Fuin Elda has been promoted recently to the rank of master healer, and may now officially use this title. From now on she is allowed to carry a star* behind the rank of nestor. Fuin, congratulations!

As always we are always looking for new taidhrim. If you want to take your first steps into healing, go over to the office and ask for a test. Minestor Ancalima or Tanestor Tinessael are there to help you with instructions.

IK Poetry Team

Well we have had another exhilarating match. Team Imladris journeyed all the way South and West to Minas Tirith where Round 8 of the IK Poetry Competition was being held. We discovered that the lands of Minas Tirith, Mordor, and Isengard all have great poets. The competition was brutal, and we found ourselves faced with yet another grave challenge.

This Round's lineup had a few changes to it. Turgonian was able to stop by and help with the poem, and we welcomed Elvandar to the team. We put together a strong line-up of poems, but it was not enough to defeat the opposition. Mordor won, followed closely by Isengard and Minas Tirith.

Again Team Imladris has suffered a defeat, although we fought hard. We shall be competing again soon, and we hope to regain our prior glory. This coming round we may see changes to the team's lineup; we hope to welcome others to the joy of poetry team competitions. All are welcome; just drop by the current thread in the CoE.

We shall try again.

Kingdom Events

SCRs of the month!

There was the sound of bells pealing with joy through the silent morning of the valley. It sounded through, disturbed the rests of some, but no one seemed to mind. The bells were sounded in times of danger and celebration, but the Elves of Rivendell all knew that this peal resonated with joy and peace that could only be tied to that of the honour of some of their very own Elven friends.

"Friends," Elrond says, "Today it is time to honor three Elves of our fair home, all of whom have long served with dedication in quiet or very public ways. Celeblin, leader of the fantastically successful Imladris Senior Drill Team and a stalwart of the IK Racing Team, the battle Arena and in the Word Sleuth league as well as running the popular game Brethad ~ Dagor an Beleriand, has been keeping company with the most noble High King of the Noldor Gil-galad. Meanwhile Master Elrond's Bard, Lindir has been seen out and about in Govannas in Glirdain and, lately, outside the Adab Nestad with Elenaro Fireblade, in recognition of his enthusiasm for so many activities with the Host, the IK Poetry Team and the Bards and the sadly now defunct Architects Guild. And last but certainly not least, Revan (FinrodFaithful) who has helped keep the flag flying high for our IK Junior Drill and the IK Debate teams and also keeping the lore in all our minds with various fiendishly enjoyable games has been looking after the shiniest face of them all, Eärendil."

Indeed, as the Lords would say, we should praise them with great praise. Eglerio hym!

RPG Report - The Unseen

*written by Vella’s friend and NPC Silivrenon*

I write this with a shaking hand and fear in my heart, for not all is well with the denizens of this fair Valley.  Early this morning, my dear friend Arvellas, whom some of you may know as Vella, set out to
join her father, Legolas Fireblade, and some other friends and family for an outing beyond the borders of Imladris.  Our lovely Rivendell, guarded so well by the Host, is among the safest of places in Middle-earth, and yet as many well know, dangers beyond count lurk just beyond the Valley’s rim.  Arvellas, well aware of this, left her home clad in light armor and carrying weapons.  It proved well that she did so, but how she is faring at the moment I know not.  The weather was clear this morning, and all seemed fine and bright and beautiful, and I did not worry much at first.  However, not many hours after Arvellas had departed, looking up towards the cliffs in the direction she had gone I espied dark stormclouds gathering, letting loose a great torrent upon the woods.  I then thought that she would soon be home again and out of the storm, but it was not so.  I waited, and wondered if I should go after her, but I knew not where the group might be within the forest.  Some while later I received a message, hastily written on damp parchment, carried by a bedraggled hawk.  It was from Arvellas, and I
shall here repeat its contents:

Silivrenon,
A fine morning spent with my family has swiftly become a disaster.  My mother, father, stepmother, brother, aunt, grandmother, and several others were all gathered in a clearing in the woods.  The weather was fine, and we suspected no trouble nearby, apart from the usual dangers of the forest, which may be averted with caution and skill in arms.  I was sparring with my brother, Elenaro, when the stormclouds gathered. Within moments, the torrent was so great that we could barely see through the falling sheets of water, and we all had to find each other by touch.  We made our way as best we could back down the path, but it was no use; we had to turn aside into the trees to take shelter.  As we moved slowly through the wood, the rain seemed to be easing up before us, and so we continued in that direction, all cold and soaking wet and eager to find an end to the foul weather.  It was then that we came upon two skeletons amidst the trees.  They were old and rotted out, and so we hoped that whatever menace had slain them was no longer in the area, but we decided to check to make sure.  Not far ahead there was a tall building, a tower strange and unfamiliar to us, with a dark look about it.  We should have turned back there and braved the trail home, but instead we began to search around the tower, and my brother and I each scouted half of its perimeter: I found fresh orc prints, and he
came upon a corpse not long dead.  It was then clear to us that yrch were still in the area, and so we returned to the others, only to find that we were too late, and that our aunt Siladhiel had been captured
and taken inside the tower.  Where she is in this dark and horrid place, I do not know, nor can I imagine how she may be faring.  We knew at once that we had to enter the dread building to rescue her, and even now the main group is in one of the first chambers of the place.  We met five yrch not long after entering, but slew them all.  A good many of us here belong to the Host, and fortunately we have come armed to various extents.  We shall do anything and everything in our power to regain Siladhiel alive and well.  Until then, I fear for her.  I am sending this with the only messenger I could find: a poor hawk sitting in the bushes around this awful place.  I do hope the message reaches you, and that this is not the last you hear of me.
Arvellas

I too hope it is not the last I hear of her, or of any them.  Only time will tell if they can manage to thwart the dangers around them and come safely home.  I am hoping with all my might that they are not lost to
us entirely, and that Varda may look upon them and aid them even in that dark and horrid place.

RPG Report - Shadows of the Past

Rilome commanded the group to gather and led them higher into the mountains. When their safety was guaranteed at least temporarily, they stopped to rest and tend to the wounded. Luckily there weren’t many of them and only Elenaro Fireblade got hit by an arrow in his chest, but despite the grievous wound he recovered enough to be able to ride. The main company rode ahead and the healers agreed to accompany Elenaro and Etharion to watch over their safety, moving forwards at their own speed. All were heading across the mountains to meet the group of Lorien elves, led by Arod. That journey was by grace of the Valar uneventful.

All reached the camp in one piece, where the elves of Lorien were already waiting for them, readying the camp. Some elves headed quickly to sleep, the wounded were tended to more thoroughly, and the injuries of the horses were also cared for. Guards were set up just in case, while scouts went to discover any hidden dangers and others went hunting for food. The meat was soon cooking on the many campfires and most of the elves were enjoying the warmth, the rest, the food and the company. Slowly all fell asleep (except the guards of course).

Yet rest was not to behad; suddenly dark clouds accompanied by strong wisps of wind gathered above their heads. Flashes of light and ground-shaking thunder sounded; before the elves could realize what was going on, a terrible storm rose, blowing their feet out from under them and carrying away their belongings. All grabbed what belongings they could save and under the pouring rain ran towards the South Mirkwood looming nearby. They shouted directions to each other, trying to out-yell the wind. Everyone made it safely to Mirkwood and walked deeper into the forest. Safe from the storm under the trees, the elves tried to set everything in order as much as possible, hoping that in the morning the sun would rise and they could leave quickly from such a dangerous area.

Interview with Celeblin

When I asked to submit an interview I knew who I wanted to chat with, and I was delighted when he agreed. Without keeping you waiting, let me introduce to you Celeblin: a well-respected and much-loved member of Plaza and one of our own no less.

Iluvefailisse: First of all thanks for agreeing to be interviewed, I could think of nobody I’d rather be talking to.
Celeblin : Thank you; it's quite an honour I must say!

Iluvefailisse: Are you are sitting comfortably? There is water there if you need a drink. We shall begin. *laughs*
Celeblin: I'm sitting very comfortably, thank you.

Iluvefailisse: Not very original, I know, but could you tell us a little about yourself?
Celeblin: Now, where to begin...

Iluvefailisse: There's no rush.... By that I mean both Cele the character and the man behind him
Celeblin: Well, the name's Celeblin as you hopefully know already. I've been a member of the Plaza for, I dunno, about 4 years now I think. At the moment I'm an Elf of Rivendell, something I have been for a few months now. I have however, been both here and there, but hopefully I have settled down for a while now in the beautiful Valley of Imladris. Over the years I have been doing all sorts of things, things of which I'm proud to have been a part of.

Iluvefailisse: I hope you stay a good while but now I have to ask: you have been on Plaza a long time. Has it changed much for you since joining?
Celeblin:
Yes, it most certainly has, in many ways. People become admins, rulers, maias, and mods, and people step down as admins, rulers, maias, and mods. People leave and people join, so I suppose you can say it's been a change of generations over the years. These are changes that change the face of the Plaza, but also your Plaza "life". I have gotten a lot of friends over the years, but unfortunately I have lost a lot of friends as well, since many people leave the Plaza. But I think the biggest change of all is the change from newbie to where I am today. The excitement you feel as a newbie is something you will only feel then. It's a feeling that you'll never experience again, and I think it's important to treasure every moment you spend in your "younger days". As a newbie you look up to everyone, but when you have been on the Plaza for a long time, that changes; suddenly you are the one people look up to. Not saying people are looking up to me of course! *chuckles* The Plaza will never be the same place as it was when I was a newbie, for I will never experience the same excitement of exploring this incredibly huge place.
That being said, I also think that the change from newbie to rank 15 (where I am today) has been a positive one. Today I know much more of everything, not only about the Plaza, but about life in general and of course about Tolkien. I can now be the one who gives newbies advice and guides them around, and I have to say it's a responsibility I like. So to sum it up, the Plaza has changed for me, in both positive and negative ways, but mostly positive; if not, I would not be sitting here, now would I? *grins*

Iluvefailisse: Indeed we would not be talking; that's true!.... What is your most memorable occasion on Plaza?
Celeblin: I was just about to say I was going to have to think about that for a while, but the answer is actually quite simple. My most memorable occasion on the Plaza would be the day I was promoted to Captain of Quentalmo – the Drill Team of Lórien. That event in my Plaza life has made me into who I am today, there is no doubt about that.

Iluvefailisse: A fine answer that actually leads to my next question perfectly: as Head of the Senior Drill League, what attracts you to Drill?
Celeblin: What attracts me to Drill first and foremost is that it is a fun way of reading Tolkien and of expanding your knowledge about the Master and his works. That is what draws me to Drill - however, what attracts me to Drill as Head of the Sr. Drill League is a bit different. In that position, I'm drawn to Drill by the organizing. I love to organize things and ensure that everyone is having fun drilling and reading Tolkien. I guess that today, it is more important for me to see others drilling and having fun than to be drilling myself, since I take joy in organizing it all.

Iluvefailisse: Another fine insight into Cele and now the last question. If you could change anything, what would it be?
Celeblin: If possible, I would like everyone to feel the same excitement as I did when I was a newbie all the time, but I suppose that is not possible. I would love to see all my old friends back on the Plaza, but I suppose that won't happen either! I am in fact happy with how the Plaza is today; though I am sure there are many things that could be changed, I am rather happy where I am now and how things are.

Iluvefailisse: *smiles* Thank you, you gave me some great answers.

And if you ever wonder what they do afterwards on a chat show - we went backstage for a beer. *chuckles*

Tidings from Abroad

Khazad Dûm Report

Minas Tirith

Varkin, readers of the Herald!

The approaching of the holidays has made activity slow down around the Kingdom, with some of its members travelling abroad. However, the doors are kept open in the Halls of the Dwarves and they are expecting the arrival of new visitors to check out all the news that I bring you this month!

Tornihyanda has summoned all the Anghak soldiers to a big gathering to be held in the Anghak Realms. Although there aren’t greatly defined plans, the Kapon is thinking about a soft RPG to bring some life to the Army. A journey through the icy tops of the Misty Mountains will keep the Dwarves busy for a couple of weeks, where perils and dangerous adventures shall occupy the mind of the soldiers.

Still related to RPG threads, the “ Ceredir's Rings” Quest has been opened. In a short resume, the Ceredir's Rings are giant and powerful artefacts that hold a power beyond human comprehension, made in the prosperous times of Númenor. It is now the duty of a group led by two Rangers to destroy those artefacts, to make sure they won’t be used by the Evil foe who is gaining strength once more. Although it has already started, it is never late to join it, even when the story is highly developed and advanced.

The IK Racing Season is over and it is with joy that I announce the third place of the Badger Team, who have made all the inhabitants of Khazad-dûm proud. Nevertheless, the Badgers still have to run in some races, the usual after-season competitions. Tornihyanda and Argosare the only ones who are going to participate in the three of them, the Race of Champions and of Losers, as well in the Derby. As Captain of the Team, he is looking forward for a good score and also for a Khazad-dûm victory in the Derby.

The name of the June’s Dwarf of the Month is revealed. Merne has won the title with a great number of votes, which allowed her to have a big advantage concerning the other nominated Dwarves. The July title has been opened and Tornihyanda shall announce the winner in the last days of this month.

Concerning games, Khazad-dûm offers some options. Although the Kaption Kontest is now only allowed for members of the Kingdom, we still have the Thief Hunt and the Absolute Balderdash, not to mention the activities that are daily held by the Dwarven Clans.

The KD Welcome Centre is also considering the concept of refreshing the way the thread functions, appointing specific guardians to each newbie on arrival, something that wasn’t being done so far. With this, the DAR Team expects to make the newbies feel more confident and comfortable within the walls of Khazad-dûm.

New ideas are always welcome, no matter if you offer them in the Tashid Halls, Royal Chambers or contact directly the Rulers by their mails. In order to improve the quality and quantity of threads in the Kingdom, new ideas are requested, it is not necessary to be a member of the Kingdom to present them. So, if you think you have something that fits in the Kingdom, please don’t hesitate going to one of those places mentioned above. We shall be grateful!

And so, here I finish with this Report. I do hope you have enjoyed reading through it and you are now eager to rush towards the Halls of the Dwarves!

~ Tornihyanda

Minas Tirith Report

Minas Tirith

Greetings friend, and welcome to the White City of Minas Tirith.  This month has seen the return of the fabled Thief Hunts. Who could the criminal be?  What did they steal?  The mystery is yours to solve.

The barn raising is done as well, and as night descends upon the land everyone is welcomed to come and join in the fun of a barn dance.  This month also brings some revisions for the Minas Tirith Paper, the White Tree Registry, as a vote is currently being held for the new Editor-in-Chief position.

So come dance in the barn of Findy's new home to celebrate, or chase that thief and earn yourself some fame and glory.

Rohan Report

Riddermark

Summer has always been a season of festivities in the Riddermark, and this year has been no different. Our Summer Festival opened in style on the 9th July, and has had an excellent turn-out. Many people from all kingdoms relaxed in the picnic and dance main RP thread; and Ciarda's two events (the Slip'n'Slide and the Ale-drinking contest) had sign-ups filled up within 24 hours of them opening. Well, who would want to miss dashing down a slippery length of plastic or drinking as much ale as they can hold?

As always, animals found their way into several of the events: the Jousting Tournament, the Pet Show and the ever-popular Badger Chase. The final event of the summer festival was the Scavenger Hunt, which involved wandering through the Riddermark solving tricksy clues in order to collect particular items for TR Shivased.

Naturally, the Summer Festival was not the only thing going on in the Riddermark this month. Wynmæg has continued to run her Magic Chest game, which involves participants making a wish, and the chest granting it either in its original form or in some other wonderfully warped way. Also, the Hall of Celebrations opened, to celebrate events such as weddings IC, and leave OOC comments on birthdays, plazaversaries etc...

Finally this month we congratulate the three SCR holders: Sæthryrth, who wears the face of King Théoden for her work on the Summer Festival and the Rædboda; July's Hasufel Wynmæg, who has leapt into almost everything since joining the Mark in April; and Helekwen who wears the face of Théodwyn for 'picking up where she left off' on her return to the Riddermark after a brief kingdom change. Congratulations to all three!

The Shire Report

Lorien

Mid-summer Madness!

All seems quiet in the Shire as this month draws to a close but I suspect it may have something to do with the complete craziness that was the start of the month. As with every summer we had our annual Lithedays Festivities and this year was no disappointment!

In the lead up to the Festival the Shire was in uproar with the food, drinks, games, fancy new clothes, chairs, tables, tents and a whole host of other things to get ready. Visitors came from all over Middle-earth to take part and Hobbits were out in their droves to bask in the warm summer sun while enjoying all that was on. And while all that was going on, the Lithe Committee were spending their days huddled in a small room out the back of the Mayor’s Office drawing up the lists of games, activates and prizes.

Among the many activities was the Lithe Carnival, a large spread of games, fortune telling, snacks, prize draws and even some pie throwing, all laid out around the famous party field. In another part of the Shire was the outrageous BAGgins race where folk had to slip into something like an old potato sack and jump the length of the course! There was the Strongest Hobbit Contest where contestants had three tough challenges to get through, the Miss Lithe Pageant, a way for the ladies of the Shire to show their skills, the Mad Baggins Mad Libs game which proved very popular, and very funny, the Dance Competition, the Art Contest, a fishing tournament and of course plenty of music, food and free drinks supplied for all. There was also two special treats as the Festival drew to a close. The Istari Illuminators Guild arrived and gave us a fabulous fireworks show and as a surprise a King and Queen of Lithedays were named for outstanding contribution, the title of King going to Scary Smallburrow and his Queen for the evening turned out to be the delightful Tulip Tulle.

When it was all over, everything cleaned away and when all the visitors had left for their own homes everyone agreed it had been well worth it! And so for now things have quietened down around the Shire, lots of folk have taken off to different parts for summer holidays while others are simply choosing to relax at home with their families.

Although the rumour mill is churning and word has reached me that something odd is happening over in our Mayors Office. Folk swear they spotted an Ent and an Elf sitting at the desks of our Mayors. But what this might mean…well that will need some investigating!

Language: The Past Tense in Quenya

Welcome to another lesson in Quenya. First, I promised you would get the correct sentences from our previous lesson. I am sure you translated these as -

1. Isil na calima.
2. Aran na úmea.
3. Atta ciryar.
4. Ciryat.
5. Oron na ercasse.
6. Rocco.
7. Atta tier.
8. I rocco.

New assignment, translation:

1. Three wise women.
2. Coa na carne ar ninque.
3. Tári lindea.
4. Nís ar tári nar mátar.

coa= house
carne= red
ninque= white
nís (niss-)= woman
mat= to eat
saila= wise
nelde= three

PAST TENSE

In Quenya, the past tense is formed with ending -ne, for the most part (in English ending -ed ). With the A-stem verb this is very easy: just put the ending -ne to the vowel 'a'.
For example:sinta = to fade; becomes - sintane = faded.

But with primary verbs - well here we have to do more work than for a-stems. Those that end in 'm', 'n', 'r' - are not a problem.
For example:ver car = 'to do, make'; becomes - carne = did do (done).

The same form when this verb ‘s’ in the past tense has with word above carne which means red. You will without a problem distinguish them in sentence by meaning.

Yet what if we want to apply the past tense to the verb top = 'to cover'?
Since it cannot be topne, as the cluster ‘pn’ is not permissible, we must rearrange it a bit.
‘N’ of ending -ne, becomes 'm' in front of 'p'; and thus we get tompe = 'covered'.

So remember this rule: ‘n’ becomes ‘m’ before ‘p’, if this ‘p’ is the last consonant in a verb.

A few examples with other endings of primary verbs (those not ending in ‘m’, ‘n’
or ‘r’) come with nasal infixion.
Tec = 'to write' has the past tense tecne = ‘wrote'; not tence, for ‘cn’ is not permissible.

Likewise with mat = 'to eat'; becomes – mante = 'ate', not matne.

Just look out for clusters and all will be well.

Another ending we have for primary verbs that end in ‘l’. To them we attach the ending -le. Example; vil = 'to fly' becomes ville = 'flew'.

An exception in primary verbs, or should I say irregularity, when considering one that ends in the consonant ‘r’.
An attested example is rer = 'sow'. Normally you would put -ne to ‘r’, but in this case it was given as rende = sown.

So we might have one more ending -nde for some verbs, yet we cannot be certain.

Two more exceptions in
1) lav ='lick', for which the past tense, if formed by lengthening the stem vowel and putting the ending -e - we will get lave = 'licked'.
(Namárie has 'unduláve' = downlicked. )

And in
2) um = the negative verb 'don't' (not do, not be) in the past tense has the form úme (the same procedure as with lav- ).

And so we come not to the end, but to two last rarities.

1) A-stem serta = 'tie' is not sertane, but sére.

2) onta = 'create, beget' has two possible forms: ontane or óne.

Poetry

Song of the Twilight

I heard a Song ‘twas of the voice
That kindles ev’ry soul
It sang with twining melody
That drew me forth in haste
For wild and fey was it to me
I sought to understand
Pursued I did the sound so lithe
Until I found its source
A thing more lovely ne’er was dreamed
It was the Song itself
Its flowers, leaves, and tendril arms
Did show beyond compare
It danced between the silver stars
Unbound by any means
I reached hand up to its Light
And Light was all I held
In twilight woven through with song
I was to stay for good
A wond’rous place by all accounts
Yet not one with the Song
So here I sing in harmony
With that which I most love
Forever doomed to be apart
But privileged to hear
Awaiting days when I may touch
The flow’ring starlit song

Elven Hononyms

The elven languages of Sindarin and Quenya are beautiful to be sure, but like all other languages they have their share of homonyms: words that sound the same but have different meanings, and these can on occasion be quite laughable.
(compiled with the help of Harlindon in the Language Forum)

Sindarin homonyms:

If Captain Rilómë tells the Host: “Echado vegyl lîn laeg!” it is probably safe to assume she means “Make your swords sharp!”  However, “laeg” has two meanings, and for all the soldiers know, Ril may have told them: “Make your swords fresh and green!”

Someone has told you of the wizard Gandalf: “E gâr angol dhaer!”  This could mean he has great lore in magic, but you might hold your nose as you approach him, for "angol" does not only mean “deep lore.”  The sentence could also have meant: “He has great stench!”

After Sam and Frodo’s journey through Mordor, it would be understandable for them to say: “Im fuion eru,” meaning “I abhor wastelands,” but while eru with a lowercase “e” means “wastelands,” Eru with a capital “E” is the one true god of Middle-earth!

One might say of Elrond: “So gâr ’wanur,” and either way it would be true, but by “ ’wanur” do you refer to Elros, a long-dead king of Númenor, or to the hotties we all know as Elladan and Elrohir? The sentence could have meant “He has a brother,” but could also have been “He has twins.”

If your brother is a tracker, you might tell your friend: “So cên daith or thailf,” meaning “He reads marks on fields.”  But your friend might reply that she wants him to tell her fortune, for thanks to the
double-meaning of “thailf,” you might well have said, “He reads marks on palms!”

If you are told: “Mado i gordof ’aer!” you might do so pleasure, or you might refuse, depending on which meaning of “ ’aer” applies.  You might have been told “Eat the red apple!” or it could have meant, “Eat the dreadful, awful, fearful apple!”

If you are lost in southern Mirkwood near Sauron’s evil fortress of Dol Guldur, you might say: “I daur malch!” meaning “The forest is cruel!” But given the other meaning of “i daur,” one would not say that around Elrond and Glorfindel, for “The lords are cruel” would be an utter lie!

While at someone’s house, your host hands you a glass of water, and as you drink it, he tells you: “Le sogal nîn lim.”  Do you thank him, or spit the water out?  It depends on what he meant by “lim:” he could have said “You are drinking clear water,” but then again, he could have said, “You are drinking fish water.” (Whenever staying at someone’s home, always check to make sure they don’t fill the glasses from the aquarium!)

You are reading the newspaper and come across this headline: DAGANT SE NA HIGIL VAEG!  But you wonder at the words “higil vaeg” : Is this ahomicide case, or a tragic accident in a jewelry store?  It could mean either “She was slain with a sharp knife!” or “She was slain with a
pointy necklace!”

At the battle of the Pelennor, Faramir tells one of his men: “Ennas adan charn!”  Will his soldiers help the man or kill him?  The man’s fate rests upon how they interpret “charn.”  Faramir either said “There is a wounded man!” or “There is a southern man!” (i.e., one of the Haradrim)

If someone says of a place: “I nôr thaur,” you might have trouble getting in—or you might not want to if you could!  Considering the double-meaning of “thaur,” this could mean “The land is fenced,” or “The land is abominable!”

If you are on a treasure hunt, and your instructions say: “rado na rist,” what is “rist” supposed to mean?  Are you supposed to make your way toward a sword, or a deep valley?
