Welcome to Fangorn!
Whether you be a visitor or a new member of Fangorn be sure to read this page as it offers plenty of good advice.
Have fun discovering your roots in Fangorn!
Code of Conduct
Spamming is not allowed and will not be tolerated. Prime examples of spamming include:
- Posting anything in a thread that is unrelated to the topic of that thread.
- Using excess characters or smileys, or placing your signature (sig or siggie) within the body of your post to stretch
it to obtain points or just chatting.
- Creating a new thread without permission of the rulers.
- Posting excess smilies, or stretching them.
- For the full definition and consequences of spamming, please refer to the
Plaza FAQ.
Insulting Ents, or any Plaza member, will not be tolerated. First offenders will be warned, repeat offenders will be
dealt with by the kingdom rulers or admins.
Do not abuse admins or rulers. They have been chosen by Valinor and they work hard to make the kingdom run smoothly.
If you have any problem with them it is better to discuss it over IM or email not on the plaza. Any abuse of admins
or rulers is a suspendable offense. Period.
Ents should not be hasty. That means do not lose your temper and/or insult other people. We expect folk of other races
to follow suit.
Fighting or badmouthing anywhere in Fangorn will not go unpunished.
No one should post Battle Arena-related offers and suggestions in Fangorn. All such posts will be deleted. Always be sure
to be polite and friendly. Humor is welcome as long as it isn't aimed at anyone. But most importantly - HAVE FUN!!
What are Ents?
Ents are a race of sentient beings that look like trees. No two are exactly the same for they may look like different
species of trees (such as Oak, Maple, Cherry, etc). Their origins lie far back in time, before the First Age of Middle
Earth, when Yavanna the Valie created them - and Eru agreed to give them life - to protect the forests from other
species. As a whole, Ents are not "hasty". They are known for slow deliberations and they rarely rush to judgment.
However, when action is needed, Ents can get "hot" and "roused". Then beware, for their power over nature can be
awesome to behold!
Tolkien first introduced Ents in the Lord of the Rings with The Two Towers. Treebeard is the most identifiable Ent
in the books. From Treebeard, we know that Ents are the shepherds of trees and the protector of forests and nature:
"We keep off strangers and the foolhardy; and we train and we teach, we walk and we weed." In that sense Ents are a
race apart from trees altogether though they may take on the characteristics of trees; they may become "tree-ish"
or "sleepy."
For more information on Ents, we recommend reading The Two Towers and the page titled Roleplaying Ents.
What are the Huorns?
Huorns are a race of tree-like beings who are either Ents who became "tree-ish," or were possibly trees animated and
educated by Ents. In the time of The Lord of the Rings, the Huorns were known for their ferocious protection of
Fangorn against outsiders. They are not all 'bad' and some of them are quite friendly!
What is Fangorn?
Fangorn was the last remnant of a great forest that once stretched from Fangorn's Eastern borders to the Lune
Mountains West of the Shire. At the time of the Lord of the Rings, Fangorn was reduced to a section of forest at
the Southern end of the Misty Mountains near the borders of Rohan. On the Plaza, Fangorn is the Kingdom of the Ents.
It is based on the description of the Forest of Fangorn found in the Lord of the Rings.
Who are the Rulers of Fangorn?
The Fangorn kingdom rulers are Treebeard and Fimbrethil, ranks currently held by
Thom [Thom] and
Lillyth [Lilly]. As rulers, they govern with a firm hand and a kind disposition. They monitor all the activities and threads
within Fangorn and are responsible for maintaining order. If you have a question you would like to ask either of them,
you should address your question in the Official Entmoot thread.
How Should I Behave?
If you are new to the Plaza, and have not yet chosen a race, please read the Plaza FAQ before doing anything hasty!
Whether or not you are new to the Plaza, be sure to read all the following FAQs to better acclimatize yourself to
our kingdom. If you are new to the Plaza, and have chosen the race of Ents, we strongly suggest you check out the
Greenhouse thread. There you may post newbie questions and expect friendly answers. It's also a great place get
situated in Fangorn.
While in Fangorn, we expect members of all races to abide by the Fangorn Code of Conduct listed above. More than
everything else, a courteous, respectful, judicious manner is expected of all Plaza members.
I am new in Fangorn and I need advice, is there a place for me?
Of course there is! The Greenhouse Thread is always active and eager to receive all your questions. What exactly
is the Greenhouse Thread? It is the newbie induction thread. This is where newbies, or any Ent, can learn to act
"Entish", get advice, get answers to questions, meet other Ents (and Fangorn is known to be the friENTliest Kingdom
on the Plaza) or otherwise ease themselves into their roles as Ents and subjects of the Kingdom of Fangorn.
Also the Moonlit Musings thread is a great place for character devolpment - a step-by-step walk-through of questions and activities designed to build your character into a fully 3D personality
I am new in Fangorn and I need advice, is there a place for me?
Of Course - one thing the forest isn't short of is people willing to give you advice - here are a few pages that might be worth reading!
The Greenhouse KP - Well worth a read!
Advice from an Old Hourness - Role-Playing suggestions from one of the forests members
Dr Oak Leaf Doronlassil's Biologia - a selection of articles on one aspect of Entish Life
[NB: Please read the disclaimer on these pages!]
Extremely Tree-Specific Ent & Hourn Suggested RP Guidelines, worth a look if you love Science!
I want to make friends here. How do I do that?
Well, first off, spamming or stretching your posts in anyway to gain points is not the way to do it. You can get
to know people by visiting their houses, see House threads in the Willow-mead Subforum. Or you might
visit the Tavern and talk to other people there. And also remember, if you have IM then check people's profiles
to find their contact details. You can use E-mails too if they have them listed, or if you are Supporting Member, send a Private Message. But in any case, be sure to never give out too
much personal information especially if you're below 18!
Can I Create a New Thread in the Fangorn Kingdom Forum?
Yes, Any member of Fangorn who is older than 30 days, and has more than 500 points, can open any thread they like - find out more HERE.
Also, look through the older topics and see if an existing thread has addressed your topic; if there is, it's perfectly acceptable to "bump" that thread up to the first page and revive the discussion. Any threads which have (CLOSED) in the title or which have a THREAD CLOSED post at the end may not be bumped. Any threads that don't relate to Fangorn will be deleted outright.
Should I Get Permission?
If you want to open an Open Forest Thread, then no
If you are younger than 30 days, or have less than 500 points, please ask in the Entmoot and it's likely the Rulers will say yes!
Our rulers are always open to new suggestions and in fact may suggest some of their own. If you would rather not discuss your idea in the Entmoot then feel free to email them at fangorn@lotrplaza.com
How Important Are Points?
It is not quantity but quality that counts. Members tend to judge others by what they have to say and how it is
said. If obtaining points is of primary importance to you then do not Spam or you will you find you will lose
points, and respect, as fast as you get them. You do not need to have 5000 points before you gain respect. Just
hang around and post in threads that interest you and before you know it you will have plenty of points. Also
our rulers give out tribute points for quality posts!
What are all these other icons around the place?
Well the icons, which say "Special Rank" on them, are the various Special Character ranks awarded by the rulers
for contributions in and around their kingdoms. The amount and kind of ranks given out every month vary. There
are other ranks which have "Tribute Rank" written on them, those are the ones which are awarded by Admins for
quality work around the plaza (not in the Kingdoms). Both the Tribute and Special ranks are given out every
month! The icons, which say "Admin", are obviously the ones who are Administrators of the Plaza. The kingdom
rulers don't have anything written on their icons!
Does Fangorn have a Pulb?
Good Question *g* The Answer is yes -and we call it our "Tavern" - please read more about it HERE
Well that's it folks! Keep that in mind and you should have no trouble in your journey in Fangorn!
Be sure to ask for help if you need it. Have fun!
