Beaky It’s time for me to finally introduce myself. I am known as Nengwëtildëtalmamundo, or Raesthond, but I bear a dozen other names in the different tongues of Elves and Men, Olvar and Kelvar. But for you hasty folk Beaky will do. I am, as you will be well aware by now, the archivist of the Forest. Here on the Archive Hill I have spent most of my life – I never travelled much I’m afraid. But there never was a reason for leaving Fangorn. My good friend Mellowthyme was always around to keep me company when I was lonely, delivering the news and stories she had heard on her journeys through the woods. She’s not my only messenger however – many creatures of the woods bring me word of news from within and without Fangorn. People say that I’m the eye and the ear of the Forest. That’s true enough, but I’m also its memory. Everything that reaches the Nóla nóleva, the Knoll of Knowledge, I will take down. It will be catalogued and stored beneath the hill, open to be consulted by Fangornians and visitors alike. Another task I took on my gladly is to greet the visitors and new Forest dwellers. I’m freely giving advice to everyone who strives for answers to their questions, and I’ve been a mentor for many a young Ent, watching them grow up and become strong and rooted firmly into life. I am the overseer of the Greenhouse, and if you are new to Fangorn, this is the right place to share your story… But enough talk of me now, there are reports to write and records to keep…

Mellowthyme There is a place in Fangon forest where my face adorns; my welcoming branches call you forward. Through times and ages, I’ve stood a guardian to Fangorn’s gates and now the time has come for my story to be told. When you approach Archive Hill you will see an Entwife. Who is it? you will ask. I am Mellowthyme, friend of all but most to Beaky. We have known each other since we were saplings where we were nurtured by our entmothers into blooming health. Yet my story is not as sweet throughout, I have incurred many hardships and each line, scratch and dent on my bark shows a tale some cannot believe.... For I am one of the eldest Oaks in Fangorn forest, with centuries of accumulated knowledge, and I spend some of my time in the middle of the forest atop the Archive Hill, a hill wherein caves contain many tablets covered with notations, in a secret code which relates the entire vocal lore of the Entfolk. In my gentle way I familiarize those new to the forest with its rules, and with a wealth of knowledge about the flora and fauna of Fangorn, if you sit in my shade for a while - you are sure to learn a wealth of knowledge! Fangorn has not always been this peaceful place, so I spend some of my time watching the doorways in and out, for I have seen people destroy, people give themselves to the first but this is my job. I am the watcher. The waiter. The outer guard. I am the welcoming face of the forest when friends come clear and the fearsome foe when enemies sneak near.So welcome friend, beware foe – you step now onto Fangorn’s door.
