The story of Dacialesdis
here is a woman in Gondor, who goes by the name, 'Dacialesdis'.
Tall she stands, dark hair framing a long face with tawny brown eyes. An odd
scar is cut across
her brow, coming close to one eye. She is most frequently adorned in the familiar
attire of a ranger, and oft in her hand rests a spear. How she came to the White
city is an unusual tale, for she was not born hither. Her story began far north,
twixt the Vales of the Anduin and Western Mirkwood. A daughter was born in the
cold depths of winter, to a happily married couple. They called their only child
Dacelle, and guessed not what awaited her.
efore 'Dacey' reached eleven years of age, she had watched her mother leave
the waking world. Her father was inconsolable, blaming himself for the feverish
fate which had befallen her, and turned in his need to an old friend, a woodelf.
Celandor the elf was called, and he aided Domanol in raising his daughter.
As the years passed, with their guidance, Dacey grew into a young woman,
and adept
with woodcraft enough to survive in the neighbouring forest. She was also lectured
in languages, and the lore of many peoples, more than she ever thought she
would meet. For the first time, she began to realise there really was a
big world out
there, though she did not yet look to explore it. She branched out instead
in her previous love of gardening by exploring woodwork. Ornaments she
crafted of
twigs and such, and birdhouses she built, though few birds visited them. Still,
she was contented. for a time ..
As the third age of Middle Earth began to draw toward it's dramatic climax
however, Dacey watched Mirkwood descend ever further into a fearful domain.
While great
warriors fought battles well known in the mighty lands afar, the north too
saw bloodshed and adventure. Dale and Erebor were assailed by Easterlings.
Then Orcs
came, and Mirkwood itself was increasingly swarmed with the servants of evil.
When the Elves and woodfolk stood up together to stem the tide and save the
forests, both Dacey's father and his friend went to fight. The young woman
saw her first
glimpse of battle, by assisting in tending those hurt, the dying. It was a
frightening experience, made ever more so by the fact that her father did
not return. Domanol
had led one of the woodmen forces in the battle, and bravely had he fought.
But Celandor brought the felled man's treasured sword back to his daughter,
and they
grieved. Their cause had been victorious and the woodlands of the north saved,
but things would never be the same again.
acey was used to being alone, but was still eager
for the company of a Gondorian traveller, whom she came across, lost in Mirkwood.
Taking him into her home,
she plagued him for news of her father's homeland, and listened eagerly of
the recently returned king and hope to the south. Swiftly did the atmosphere
change,
when the stranger recognised Dacey's father's sword, however. Claiming it
had been stolen from his own father, in Gondor, he initiated a quarrell
which turned
into a struggle for possession of the weapon. With no knowledge or interest
in violence, the woman was easily overcome, the sword stolen. She was left
scared
and scarred from the frightening revelation, her perception of her father
marred forever until she could find out the truth. Was her father a thief
and worse
? Why had he left Gondor ?
utting off her long hair, she embraced the desguise
of a man, as a means to hide, should her attacker return. Her father's secret
past had ruined
her life,
and she feared to learn any more about it, or be known as his kin. She
fled from the home she had thought 'safe', and dwelt a time in Dale. She
adopted the name
'Dastalleth', hoping to forget all that had come before, and spent her
time
amongst Dwarven acquaintances, until Celandor might return from his travels
afar. It
was in Dale that she met a hobbit, Memsis Brandagamba, who claimed she
was part of a travelling troupe of actors. The two became good friends, as
close
as sisters,
and before Mems set out to return to Eriador, she'd persuaded 'Das' to
go to Gondor; for her father's sake. Maybe things were not all that they
seemed ...
inas Tirith was everything Dacey had heard it was, and more besides. The
splendour of the White city, the vibrant life within it's walls, all this
she did observe
with great awe on her arrival. Never then did she dream she would one day
be a part of all that. But, as fate would have it, she made her new haunt
her
home, and happily so. Still desguised, she joined the Rangers, hoping to
learn better
how to protect herself, in memory of her father's stories. And she found
out much, including the truth of why Domanol had fled to the north.
ith thanks to several good friends, Dacey was able to resolve the misunderstanding,
so that she had no cause to hide any longer. Revealing herself at last
to the King and Queen, as both a woman and the daughter of Domanol 'Damascos',
Dacey
begged for their forgiveness and acceptance. To her delight, she was
received with much kind blessing, and any shame or doubt upon her father's
family
name was then lifted. Permitted to continue in her role as a ranger of
Gondor,
she
remains one of the Ehtyar (spearfolk) to this day, eager to reward the
faith offered her by those in command. Those friends she has made here
are as family
to her, as are her division and, in a more general sense, the entire
society she now finds herself part of.
espite limiting her desguise and 'acting' talents to a local playhouse
these days, she yet managed to confuse the population one last time
by changing
her name, in honour of the occasion. 'Dacialesdis' she dubbed herself,
in memory
of all that she felt association with. 'Dacelle' she had been born
after all, and 'Alescandri' was the house of those relatives who'd feuded
long,
thus ushering
her coming to her father's homeland, 'Aldis' the name of that elf who'd
helped her and her father before her, whether they desired such or
no. By now, Celandor
had found her in Gondor, and long did he plead that she might return
to the north, so he might take care of her as he'd promised Domanol.
But she
had
learnt to
take care of herself, and so she stayed in the south, hoping for a
new start. Celandor was not happy, but could not dissuade her, and departed,
though
visits often ...
acey/Das lives still with friends in Minas Tirith, and remains in
contact with those she holds dear, who live yet afar. On the anniversary
of the
Battle under
the Trees, she stands before the monument in the north, commemorating
her father and all those of the north who'd died. She thinks of her
mother also, and recalls
gratefully all that they bestowed unto her, their love of life, of
all living things, and the importance placed on protecting such.
ost of the time though, she can be found in the White city, in the
south, serving the cause that her father had loved. Living the
life of adventures
and sparkling
towers, in Gondor. It is a land of excitement and danger, and also
much more. It is the experience she will remember fondly forever.
It is the
storytale
dream she smiled at when she was just a child ...
