The story of Vinyatur
baby was born 22 years ago in Dol Amroth. He was born seven weeks early. That
is why his situation was critical when he was just born. For a couple of days
it just became worse and worse. The Healers didn't have much hope. His mother
and father were inconsolable. His mother spend days at the crib of the young
Gondorian. Crying, begging the Valar to take her instead of him. It seemed as
though the baby was going to die at an early age. On the fifth day after it';s
birth the baby stopped breathing. The Healers came and told the mother that
her son was dead. The mother fell on the ground and cried. She sat there for
hours begging the Valar to have mercy on her child.
hat happened then is by
some described as a miracle, others say the Healers had been wrong. When the
mother stood up to leave the room she heard the sound of a crying baby. At
first she thought her mind was playing with her. But when she looked around
she saw the baby was alive. Surprised but overwhelmed by happiness the mother
picked up her son and said:'' Never has such a power been seen in theses lands.
Therefore you shall be called Vinyatur!'' Meaning '' new power'' in the common
language.
he years went by and Vinyatur grew up in the city by the sea. His
life as a young boy wasn't very complicated. For many years the family lived
in happiness. Untill the summer, in the nineth year of his life. His mother
had been away for three weeks, visiting her sister in Lossarnach. She had
been away to visit her before, but never had she been away from home longer
than a month. The weeks passed and after two months there was still no sign
of his mother.
ot long after that soldiers were sent out to search his mother.
Vinyatur's father went with them, so Vinyatur had to stay with friends of
his parents for a while. There he met Estelwen, the daughter of the family
who he became close friends with. In his time with here he seemed to almost
forget about his missing mother, and he remembered those days as some of the
happiest of his life. Together they
explored the lands that surrounded the city, from the see to the wide
fields.
ut as the weeks went by the concern about his mother grew. In his
hart he started to feel that she wasn't coming back. After three weeks the
soldiers and his father came back. They had done a horrible discovery. They
had found the body of his mother at the banks of the river Serai, in Lebennin.
They suspected she was murdered by a group of plundering orcs on the way
home. The local people told them that these orcs had passed through their lands
at the beginning of summer.
he world of the young Gondorian collapsed. His
mother had been very
importnant to him in life, and the loss was hard to cope with. But
after his mother was burried, normal life in Dol Amroth continued. Even Vinyatur
started to pick up the daily routine again. But for his father the memory
of his wife was to painful. Seventy days after his wife's death he and his
son left the city, never to return again.
hey took very little with them.
They went north, passing over the mountains into the plains of Rohan. And
after that even further north. Untill they reached the boarders of Mirkwood
forrest. Here his father bought a small wooden cottagge. His father had
chosen this location because he had spent most of his own childhood there.
His father picked up his profession of weaponsmith again. Vinyatur helped him
and he learned how to craft swords and axes. His father learned him the basics
of swordfighting, and he taught him how to use an axe and a bow. Together they
often went hunting in the forrest, and because of that Vinyatur knows the
way inside Mirkwood Forrest very well.
few times a year a salesman would
come by to pick up the weapons they had made. He was an old friend of
his father who selled their products for them in Gondor. Vinyatur always looked
forward to his coming. Because he told him story's about the city of
Minas Tirith. About the seven circles, the brave soldiers and the banners of
the Citadel in the morning breeze. In his hart the desire to go to the White
City grew and his father knew this.
inyatur grew older and the day of
his eighteenth birthday arrove. His father gave him a sword and a small
axe. He looked him in the eyes and said:'' It is time for you to find your
horizon.'' And he gave Vinyatur the sword Amarain, Sindarin for Horizon.
It was inscripted with the Sindarin words Hiro i amarain lín, meaning
'' Find your horizon.'' And so it happened that Vinyatur said goodbye
to his father, and went to Minas Tirith together with the salesman to find
his horizon.
hey travelled for weeks, stopping every now and then in a small
town to sell some weapons. After five weeks they finally arrived
at the White City. Vinyatur saw that all the story's of the salesmen had been
true. He fell in love with the city and made many friends. Although he still
went out to travel with the salesman occasionally. After a year in Minas Tirith
he met Estelwen in a pub, and their friendship was reforged, stronger
then ever. He joined the Rangers and became a proud soldier of the Gondorian
army.
ecause of his his army duties he had to stop travelling with the salesman,
and he can now often be found within the walls of the city. Although
he gets out of there at times, just to travel and forget about daily life.
Vinyatur's story is far from over. Recently he got word from the salesman
who told him that the lands around Mirkwood are in danger. There is doubt in
his mind, he is thinking about going back to Mirkwood to stay with his father.
The day to make a decision draws near and he knows that. What tommorow will
bring he does not know, none do.
