The story of Eles Vardamir

orn in a village in Lamedon, Eles was a young boy bound
to his home, but one who sought to see the world. Eles learned basic sword fighting
techniques from his father Eorn and his grandfather, but his life consisted mostly
of farm work in his childhood. It was when Eles was about nine or ten that his
grandfather bestowed upon him the steel blade Terenas. Eles took the blade, a
short sword but at this point seemingly very large, and held up in glory. It
was at this time a recruiting caravan passed through the countryside, demanding
fighters to aid the White City of Minas Tirith in the constant war against Mordor.
Eles snuck aboard the caravan at his grandfather's suggestion and against his
parent's will- for he much desired to see the world of Middle-Earth.
pon entering the White City, Eles was stunned at what quickly became his
permanent home. The buildings, the people, the mere sight of it all were
unlike anything Eles had ever seen or even read about. He had truly found
his home- but the perils that came with it. For shortly after he arrived,
the Dark Lord Sauron set loose his massive army upon Middle-Earth and attacked
Minas Tirith. Eles was in the Battle of the Pelennor fields, though his inexperience
kept him at bay. He did manage to fight and succeed in killing one orc- and
he took the orc dagger as a souvenir of his first kill. He has kept the dagger
ever since, somewhat of a relic of his childhood.
or the months after, Eles began his basic ranger training, and found a home
with a child's caretaker named Meomane. However it was some few years after,
when Eles was practicing his swordsmanship, that he found one of his greatest
friends- his soon to be horse Maegiach. This mistreated beast was to be thrown
out of the White City and left to die by the stable hand, had it not been
for Eles' intervene. He swore on his Ranger's
honor that the stable boy would not see the horse in Minas Tirith any
time soon, and he bound to uphold this honor- for he'd
planned to visit the world, and perhaps return home. He did not know which
way home was- for it was years earlier that he arrived. So he rode atop Maegiach
north- into Rohan. During the time on the plains, he bonded with his new
friend, and from the healthy grass came a sturdy and strong steed. Eles turned
west across the plains, through the Gap of Rohan, and continued until he
came at last to the great sea. It was here he was at his greatest peace,
but it was here he was captured by evil Dunlandings and thrown into their
prison.
e spent what he though to be about two weeks in prison, when a tall and mysterious
man named Noreth killed the prison guard and freed Eles. He found Maegiach,
thrown in the prison stables, and together they rode off north to Bree. A
call to the land of Arnor bid Noreth to leave Eles for the time being, so
Eles entered the village of Bree alone. It was here he met Ellad- and a most
fateful meeting indeed. Ellad told Eles he was the Heir of Vardamir, son
of Elros, founder of Numenor and the Numenorean Kings. Vardamir discovered
in his youth the sword Vanaregion, or so he came to call it- for its real
name was unknown. Ellad told him this sword would prove his ancestry, and
it wielded a magical power. The sword was stolen by the dragon Brilmar, and
now lay in his keeping in Arnor. Eles traveled away from Bree to approach
Arnor, and he rested atop Weathertop, where he met the elf Acechorwen. This
elf was hunting Brilmar as well for news of her father's assassination many
ages earlier, and so they befriended each other and hunted the dragon together.
warves had raided Brilmar's tomb, and Vanaregion was taken
to the Iron Hills. Together Eles and Alcechorwen defeated the dragon, and
whoever assassinated Andor, Alcechorwen's father, had
now moved for more targets at Rivendell. Eles left the tomb in haste to search
the Iron Hills, but Alcechorwen needed to go back to Rivendell. Outside,
a group of rebel orcs prepared to rob the two and steal their possessions,
but they were quickly killed by Noreth and a group of his rangers of Arnor.
Noreth accompanied Eles to the Iron Hills, while Alcechorwen returned to
Rivendell. On the way to the Hills, Noreth stopped at King Thranduil's
Halls in Mirkwood, a place he'd befriended. It was here
that Eles met Imbedil, adopted son of Thranduil, and he was preparing to
set out as an ambassador to restore the tarnished friendship between Mirkwood
and the Hills. Imbedil reluctantly agreed to accompany the two men- Eles
and Noreth, to the Hills.
pon reaching the Iron Hills, Eles, Noreth, and Imbedil spoke with the dwarven
ruler, one who told them that a demon had been torturing their mines for
generations, and when he wakes up he steals all of the dwarven treasure.
The Dwarven Ruler reluctantly allowed the trio to hunt the demon, hoping
that their troubles would be terminated once and for all. Eles rejoiced,
and the three prepared to recover Eles' lost sword Vanaregion
from the demon known as Bragolaran. Bragolaran's lair
was filled with treasure, mounted atop each other. He feigned that he owned
the sword Vanaregion and harvested its power. He demanded the blood of Eles,
Heir of Vardamir, so that he may create an ultimate weapon. Noreth told Bragolaran
that he was indeed Eles, and Bragolaran dueled with Noreth and Imbedil. Eles
snuck away from the fight and entered a room guarded by White Light. It appeared
as though Eles was the only one allowed to enter the room, and inside was
a floating, glimmering work of mithril and diamond, and an inscription- For
those who choose the way of light, or those with the darkest path, Vana bless
you the skies of might, or curse you the darkest wrath.
Eles did not know what it meant, but he grabbed his rightful sword and returned
to the fight. He seemed to become possessed by e deceased elves of old, and
they communicated through him with the Valar of the Ancient World, and a
great storm was created. The most powerful lightning bolt Eles had ever seen
struck through the rock of the ceiling and struck Bragolaran down. He dissipated
in vain, and returned to the lairs of Morgoth.
les over rejoiced to have his sword once and for all. Noreth was equally
happy to help, and Imbedil reformed a friendship with the dwarves. The dwarves
asked the three to accompany their army to the Sea of Rhun, and with the
aid of Vanaregion, the dwarves defeated the Murlocs, a mutated fish race,
at the Sea. After this, Eles, Noreth, and Imbedil returned to Elfking, where
Eles stayed for a comfortable four years.
n these four years, Eles enjoyed the wood elf hospitality, and did many missions
for King Thranduil to rid Mirkwood of evil. In this time, Thranduil constantly
examined Vanaregion, hoping to obtain knowledge of its mystery. However,
the four years spent here seemed to go all too fast. It was late in Eles'time
that he awoke one morning to find Noreth and all of his possessions gone.
A startling revelation was that Vanaregion, too, was taken. Eles entered
Noreth's room to find a note left for him. It said that
Noreth needed to take Vanaregion to his superiors in Arnor as proof of Eles' Heirloom.
It also said that Noreth would return shortly, and for Eles not to follow
him because of the dangers nowadays with Therion's fortress. Eles decided
to follow Noreth to Arnor for two reasons. One was because he was young and
stubborn and was overly curious, and two because at this point he did not
entirely trust Noreth. However he knew Imbedil and Thranduil would never
allow him to go off alone, and so before the sentries took position, Eles
snuck away from Elfking atop Maegiach, racing west.
e came at last to the Misty Mountains, and it was here that a group of rebel
Uruk'hai overtook him and threw him in their prison. Eles met a group of
Rohirrim riders, captured as well. The Uruk'hai demanded
money in return for the prisoners, but there were no bargains, and so the
prisoners were left to die. Eles would not settle for this, and so over the
weeks they devised an excellent plan of escape. The plan succeeded, and Eles
and the Rohirrim retook their weapons and horses and rode out of the Misty
Mountains during one of its mistiest settings, along the West Side. It was
here that Eles met up fatefully with the army called F.A.M.E, standing for
the Free Armies of Middle Earth. It was here Eles joined their ranks, falling
in their march to the fortress at Angband, hunting the demon lord Therion.
The campaign was long, and at long last they reached the fortress and commenced
battle. Eles was not al too heroic, but did his best to assure the safety
of his friends- many of which he made along his campaign. After the long
battle and the defeat of Therion by King Aragorn, the army prepared the march
back to the White City. Eles was a bit apprehensive to visit the city he
once left, but knew at that moment that Minas Tirith was his true home, and
he longed to visit it.
hortly after arrival and re-acquaintances, Eles had enough knowledge to know
how to reach his homeland of Lamedon. He took Maegiach along and came at
last to his forgotten home, a place he left almost a decade ago. Despair
overtook Eles, for when he reached his homeland, he found the village burned
to the ground, but recently. He entered what once was his home to find his
parents dead, and entered his grandfather's room to find
him lying near death. It was here Eles received the closure and motivation
he needed to press on- and he vowed to kill the man behind this attack. Eles
bid his grandfather farewell, and gave everyone in the village a proper burial
before returning home. Upon his return, Eles retook his ranger training,
becoming a Hyandaner Squire before embarking on his next quest. The lost
ranger Arteris was missing since the Hunt for Therion, and Eles joined up
with some old friends to embark under Lithius Featherfoot in an attempt to
find him. They reached the burned fortress at Angband, and were hinted to
search east. Eles joined along as they prepared to enter Mirkwood. However,
they decided to take rest one ominous night at the eastern foothills of the
Misty Mountains. It was here Eles wandered astray into the foothills, and
here that he was reunited with his old friend Noreth. He hugged his old friend
with joy, but Noreth stood stern. He gave a whistle, and within minutes an
army of dark riders was atop the camp, and attacked them ferociously. Noreth
drew forth his sword on Eles, who was forced to defend. Eles had been betrayed
by his best friend.
oreth revealed everything- that he in fact plotted Eles' capture in Dunland,
so that he could appear as Eles' friend. He said he only
accompanied him because the rightful heir was needed to recover a powerful
sword such as Vanaregion. He told Eles that he was in fact part demon, and
the manifestation of a weapon so magical could make him become full demon-
something he long desired. And yes, he told Eles that he searched far and
wide after he disobeyed and left Elfking, even searching his homeland. He
told Eles indeed that it was he behind the attack on Lamedon and the savage
murder of its people. This was too much for Eles to take, and he, in anger,
attacked Noreth furiously. This caused him to be weak, and Noreth fought
the young Gondorian with ease. The fight was not a contest, as Noreth easily
defeated Eles. Had it not been for a fateful arrow from Alcechorwen, who
was also on the quest, Eles would have died there in the foothills. Noreth
was severely injured from the arrow, but a demon could not be defeated so
easily. He retreated northward, and was never seen by Eles again for the
remainder of the quest.
hey continued their quest unmoved by Eles' deeds, for Eles kept it hidden
and preferred not to startle anyone with the danger Noreth posed. They continued
in Mirkwood, and Eles was part of an elite group that got some runes- the
only hint of Arteris, to King Thranduil. This too, was fateful, for Imbedil
and Thranduil rejoiced to see Eles, and Eles told them both of Noreth's
betrayal. Imbedil took Eles' weapons, and forged them
even more powerful, so that one day they could contend with Noreth. Imbedil
accompanied Eles as they rejoined Lithius, and they continued to Lake town-
where Arteris was staying. Eles left the party at Laketown early with Alcechorwen
and returned to the spot where Eles and Noreth dueled. They took the body
of Morkis, who died trying to help Eles in his fight, to Rohan where he should
be rightfully buried, and Eles and Alcechorwen went their separate ways once
more. Eles returned to Minas Tirith and completed his ranger training, and
continued daily training on the Training Grounds for the day where he and
Noreth would duel again. Noreth was ever-increasing in Eles' mind, but he
has since then dismissed it. One day he will lead a group of hearty individuals
and take back his rightful sword, ridding Middle-Earth of an imminent threat.
or the time being however, Eles remains in Minas Tirith, forging an identity
for himself. He has taken up a last name after his ancestor- Vardamir Nolimon,
and is now known forth as Elessar Anorien Vardamir, or plainly just Eles
Vardamir. He resides today in Minas Tirith, something that he vows never
to change, with his horse Maegiach and his friends. He remains to be as helpful
to Gondor as he can, and will forever be an elite servant of the White City.
