Welcome to Minas Tirith’s
Houses of Healing

Not far from the Citadel Gate, in the sixth circle, nigh to the southward wall you will find the Houses of Healing. The structures are fair and rather large and contain the Hospital, Research Facility and Living Quarters of the Royal Master Healer. About them is a garden and a greensward with trees, the only such place in the City.
There is also a large private garden behind the living quarters.

~Pele Alarion~ Royal Master Healer

Welcome to the Houses of Healing! I am Pele Arlarion the Royal Master Healer of Minas Tirith. Let me take you on a tour of the White City’s Special and Unique Houses of Healing here in the Sixth Circle.
Follow me…

As we enter the Foyer you will find to the right and left my walls of honor and inspiration respectively. You will notice on the wall to your right a portrait of Nienna. She was the first Master Healer of Minas Tirith.

If you look to the left you will see one of my favorite portraits of our King Aragorn. I placed this here as my daily inspiration. When I come in or go out his face is the first thing I see. I am inspired and motivated every time I look upon it. I just cannot say enough to you about our wonderful King. He and I work very closely together to make sure all Gondorians have the best medical care. His efforts with Athelas alone cannot be matched. He has graciously breathed, spit and chewed the healing herb so that I might keep a well-stocked supply for various healing purposes in our Kingdom. There is no other like him.

As we leave the foyer we will continue down the hallway. You will notice several doors and stairways leading into the other rooms and areas. I'll admit it is easy to get lost here. I've heard of secret doors and passageways. I've found a couple leading out of various rooms. Follow me and I'll give you the grand tour. As we enter each area you will need to pick up a candlestick to help light the darker corners of the rooms.

The First door to the right takes us to my study. This is where
I write in my healer journals, study and record my research.

The First door to left takes us into the Houses of Healing Dining Room and Tavern. This is where select patients and friends come together for
meals and
special festivities.

Continuing on to the other side of the room and through the double doors
will bring you into my private dining room. It is very handy if I want some
privacy or if I have a guest over for dinner. The door to the left connects
to my bedroom, providing a private entrance and exit.

The Second door to the left as we make our way back down the hallway
takes us to my bedroom. I have a wonderful feather bed
where I rest very comfortably and dream of the glory of Gondor...

There are two rooms and a balcony that are attached to my bedroom.

The First room is my dressing room.

The Second room is my private Bath. This is "Hot Water Harry" he fills my tub.
Sometimes he gets help from one of my volunteer firemen.
They are wonderful at fetching and toting.

My bedroom's private balcony garden looks out over Gondor. The walls are covered with vines of ivy and I have pots of flowers lining the far wall. After a nice warm bath I enjoy putting on my fluffy robe, sitting with a cup of hot raspberry tea with vanilla milk and gazing across to the Anduin. It is so peaceful up here above the hustle and bustle of the White City.

Across the hall, the Second door to right takes us to my guest bedroom. Occasionally, I will have guests or a special friend stay over.

The third and last door on the left leads downstairs to my research laboratory and the tunnel connecting to the hospital where the patients stay. You will definitely need to make sure your candle stays lit down here.

Here let me show you some of the my things. I use these to do my job as
Royal Master Healer. Come, lets begin over here.

This is my small apothecary drawer.

Here is one of my medicine cabinets.

These are various tools necessary to
do my job. These were a gift from Nienna, who also used them.

This is one of my special leech jars. Leeches are truly amazing creatures you know. What? You want to see some? Sure... *Pele opens the jar and takes out some of her sweet healing helpers. She places them on a small black tray and places them
in your hand
*

Aren't they just wonderful? They have helped heal many Gondorians. In fact, it was funny... When I found out I was going to be the new Master Healer of Minas Tirith, leeches suddenly began appearing in my pockets. *Laughs at the memory*
I decided it must be a symbol of new blood and the future of Gondor.
*Pele smiles again and gently takes back the leeches and
replaces them in their special porcelain Leech Jar.
She doesn't notice how relieved you look.*

Follow me through this winding tunnel. It leads to the operating rooms, treatment rooms and patients' quarters. This is my private enterance to the hospital. I'm afraid to protect my patients' privacy
I will not be able to show you many things in the hospital area. We will reach two large double doors that can only be opened by pushing from this side... for security reasons.
*The tunnel winds around this way and that but always going up. Pele
tells you it is great for your quadriceps*
Here we are...
*Holding her candle in front of her, Pele pushes open the door.*

*Emerging on the other side you find yourself in a large room. It has dark paneling and is brightly lit by the sunshine streaming through the window.* This is the main room in the hospital section of the Houses of Healing. It serves as a waiting room for patients and families. Set your candle stick down here on this table and follow me. There is someone I'd like for you to meet.

*You follow Pele out of the waiting room and toward the entrance. In the foyer sits an old guy that serves as the hospital's receptionist.*
I'd like for you to meet Ralph the Receptionist. He takes care of signing in patients
and scheduling appointments. As you can see he is very diligent. He takes all his meals at his desk and rarely looks up from his duties.

Let's go outside and walk around back. I want to show you my gardens. First we will look at the Houses of Healing's Gardens and then I'll show you my private garden which is attached. We could have gotten to my private garden by taking the third door on the right at the end of the hall in my quarters. That is my private entrance. Maybe next time you are over I'll show you that way.
Come... follow me.
