Within
the Citadel there stand many buildings, centred around the Place of the
Fountain. Merethrond, the Hall of Feasts, the High Court of
Minas Tirith and others. Amongst these grand places there stands another building
of importance. The Great Library. Within its high walls the historians, the
Kings scribes, the royal scribes of Gondor, and the scholars of the ages, have
gathered in study. Its double doors made of black wood, Lebethron and intricately
carved. Within the entrance hall is a museum, with sculptures and mementos
of Gondor's rich history adorning its interior. There are rows of black marble
statues depicting the High Kings. To the right as you enter you will find the
reception area, with its comfortable chairs and mosaic tiled floor. To the
left you will find the office of the Royal Librarian herself, her chamber dedicated
to learning and research. If you pass through the central aisle you will find
the office of guidance and the office of cartography. The Royal Master Cartographer
dwells within, and she offers maps for sale at reasonable prices. In the office
of Guidance those in need of aid through the wilderness may request a Ranger
Guide, to help them safely on their journey.
Beyond that and you will find the Hall of Tomes, where great stone bookcases
hold the secrets of Gondor's illustrious past, with tidings of Numenor and
the Ages, a wealth of knowledge to explore.
To the left and the right of this large chamber are the wings, where the scribes
research and record events that transpire and have transpired. Finally at the
far end of the Hall of Tomes there is another door. This leads to the forbidden
realm of Royal Archive, and only the King and Queen and the Royal Librarian
have admittance. Only with special permission are others allowed. Here are
kept the dark scrolls, the enigma's and the mysteries, both solved and unsolved,
down
through
the
years.
Enjoy
your
tour
of the Great
Library, yet do not venture to the Royal Archive, for great would be the penalty
paid by any unwanted prying eyes...
