    Baldo Bagshot

Baldo Bagshot was one of the infamous Bagshot clan of Hobbits, who all (apart from Baldo) lived in Bree. The Bagshots were always known as slightly "queer" folk, living among big folk and also because of the fact that Baldo's father, Paladin Bagshot was an Archer in the Bree Miltia. The only Hobbit Baldo looked up to more than Paladin was his old Grand PaPa. Ever sinice he was knee high to him, Grand PaPa would tell the young Baldo tales of his time in the Buckland Bounders.

Baldo was mesmerised by these stories (his favourite being of the time his Grand PaPa knocked out a rogue wolf with a well-aimed pebble between the eyes) and it became his ambition to join the Bounders. When Baldo became of age, he left Bree to seek his fortune in the Four Farthings. Having nothing on him but his trusty shortbow, a hearty bag of rations and the family pig, Snork Baldo made the long and tiresome journey to Buckland.

Having just settled in the Shire, Baldo has just signed up to the HDS and enjoys tending to his vegtable patch in the Needlehole Meadows.

    Blackrose Bugg

You may have noticed her on the streets of Bywater. She would not necessarily draw your eye, unless you happened to notice the bulging rucksack she carries everywhere. In that sack are the bits and pieces of her life, and she pauses here, to unpack them for you.

The first item she draws forth is a small grey cat. He blinks in the sunlight, and stretches. A consummate sleeper, he is the latest in a long line of cats that have shared house and hole with this hobbit lady. Cats suit her. They are independent, as is she. They are fond of lazy days in a warm sunny spot, as is she. They are quiet, but playful, and enjoy companionship. As does she.

The next item is a large leather journal, well used and battered. This is her “travel guide”, her constant companion. No matter where she goes, the journal is there, ready to capture a thought, a bit of rhyme, a piece of an interesting conversation, or just a quick description of an interesting sight. This journal keeping is a habit she learned from her father, a most unique hobbit. He always treasured books, papers, and writings, even over the family, or so it seemed. Now, she understands her father’s obsession, and wonders at her mother’s ability to distract him from it as long as she did.

We also see a roll of leather that opens to display a row of quills and a small blade. These are the tools of her trade, indeed, as is the carefully capped inkhorn she pulls out next. She makes her own ink, part of the herbal lore handed down by her mother, who was well known for her gentle hands and efficacious remedies.

A few bundles of dried herbs and small collection bags emerge next, part of her mother’s legacy. This hobbit lady collects plants and herbs wherever she walks, and is never without some basic remedies, ink ingredients, or the makings of a good cup of tea.

The last thing in the bag is her emergency kit - a needle and thread, although she can do no better than clumsily gather a rip together; a small cooking pot for tea water; a book she has not yet read; and a big handful of dried veggies, for those times when she spends the entire day out writing. She has recently made good use of this as she travels back and forth to Rivendell, where she has just been promoted to Journeyman in the Lore School of the Bard’s Guild.

Suddenly, she makes a small noise of curiosity and surprise, and pulls one more item from the rucksack. It is a large, heavy black frying pan. Wondering how that got in there, she stands confused until a passing hobbit gently nudges her in the direction of the Mayor’s Office, where Rose Cotton stands, smiling and waving. To her utter delight and amazement, BB has been selected to serve as Samwise Gamgee, Mayor of the Shire. An honor she intends to fulfill to the best of her abilities.

As she has been unpacking the bits and pieces of her life, you might have noticed the glitter of a gem on her finger. ’Tis the sparkle reflected from the engagement ring, which Hoth Par of Gondor placed there when he asked her to share his life and his love forever. His wisdom, his compassion, and his gentle heart have taken a lonely lady, and made her the happiest hobbit in Middle Earth. Walking by his side for the rest of their days, in joy and laughter is a dream that will soon come true.

As she carefully stows all the gear back into the rucksack, she grins. It has been my pleasure to introduce her, Blackrose Bugg, hobbit.

    Brandybuck

Brandy is a very pretty, young hobbit lass in that peculiar hobbit age known as the tweens, the irresponsible twenties. She is of average hobbit height with dark, almost black, wavy hair and a sweet, endearing smile. The untimely death of her parents many years earlier left her an orphan albeit a wealthy orphan for her parents had left her much of their land and possessions. She was raised by kind relatives until she was old enough to live on her own. Although she has not yet come of age, Brandy, as her good friends know her, lives in a large, luxurious hobbit hole in Bag End, one of the most prestigious addresses in the Shire. Brandy dearly loves her cousins and friends in Buckland but she enjoys the quiet comforts of Bag End too much to consider moving to Brandy Hall, her ancestral home in Buckland. Close friends of Brandy’s will tell you her personal hero is her great-great -great cousin, Meriadoc Brandybuck, a great hero in the War of the Ring. By nature, Brandy is cheerful and friendly. She has a strong fascination with things that grow in the earth. Her love of trees and flowers is evident in her beautiful garden at home.

Brandy has had a very happy and simple life in the Shire. As she is independently wealthy, she spends her days pursuing her many interests. Most mornings she supervises the apprentices in the Shire Knitting Circle where is a Senior Mender. The Knitting Circle is a small neighborhood group devoted to designing and sewing clothes for all inhabitants of Middle-Earth. In the evenings, Brandy visits the Old Tooks mansion where many of the Shire’s older residents gather to chat about anything and everything.

A friend to many in the Shire, Brandy is especially close to Loralinn, Marigold, and Ea. Brandy is also on very good terms with her cousin Blackrose Bugg, one of the brightest hobbits in the Shire. Although she is very approachable and personable, Brandy is secretly a bit of a warrior at heart. She has slowly advanced through the ranks of the Hobbit Defense Squad to her current position as a spy in the Troops Abroad Regiment. When she has the time, Brandy accompanies her HDS comrades in various adventures throughout Middle-Earth.

Despite the dangers of the journey, Brandy frequently travels alone on the reliable Ent Express to Khazad-Dum to provide her services at the renowned Moria Health and Beauty Spa. Customers from various Kingdoms eagerly wait in line for her luxurious hair treatments and soothing massages.

Brandy has pride in her people and her quiet green part of the world. She strives to serve the Rulers of her Shire to the best of her abilities. Brandy’s journey as a hobbit is just beginning...
