Violet Took

Meaning of Name
Dora named her daughter after the purple flower that Robin, her husband gave to his future wife on the first day that the two met in Bree. From experience, she now knows that her daughter is not as shy as the flower is supposed to be.

Nicknames
Vi which is the shortened form of her name.

Age
26 years old

Height
Violet is exactly 3 foot 1.

Body Type
Violet can run with the best of the hobbit race due to her Took ancestry. She possesses a curvy body with 5 to 7 extra pounds of `padding` that she received from the Banks side of the family.

Eye Color
They are green like polished emeralds and as bright as the morning dawn…except when she has just woken up.

Hair Color and Style
She has middle of back length wavy raven locks. Violet normally does not find the time to wear hair accessories to keep hair out of her face. If she wants to put her hair up, Violet will use a piece of ribbon and some bobby pins to keep things neat and tidy.

Date of Birth
February 16

Place of Birth
Violet was born at The Prancing Pony in Bree. Her mother, who was not one to give up, worked until her child was born in the chamber of Barliman Butterbur, her boss.

Family
Iris Banks is Violet`s grandmother. She has wavy black middle of back length hair with flecks of gray throughout and piercing gray eyes. Dora was shocked when her own daughter turned out to resemble her grandmother so much in her looks. Iris is a wonderful cook and was the one who taught Violet how to make a secret family recipe- Latticed Peach Pie before she even told her own daughter. Mrs. Banks is a kind and gentle woman with a heart of gold. She sends meat pies and other baked goods to others who are sick or bed-ridden in order to cheer them up. Her gardening skills are top-notch. In fact, she has been called upon to help design the gardens of other hobbits and help with their planting problems. Her grandchildren and family are her first priority and if something happens to them, she is always close at hand.

Bungo Banks is Violet`s grandfather and was quite protective of his `girls`. When he moved to Bree from Staddle, other hobbits thought that he was off his rocker. Even his family thinks that he could tone down his actions just a little bit. Bungo always used to tell Violet and Daisy that his hair was so white because he was scared by a large troll as a child. Iris knows that it his hair went white prematurely. Bungo possessed blue eyes but they were pale as fish eyes- he said he had been born a fish. His favorite thing was telling young lads and lasses about far off places with dragons and other fairy-tale creatures. He can blow smoke rings with the best of them and `held` classes for others in exchange for pouches of pipe-weed. Bungo enjoyed taking long walks in the forest and had the habit of bringing back small treasures for his granddaughters. He does not go as often as he once did because he has developed arthritis in his knees.

Dora Took was only 38 years old when she had Daisy- barely into her tweens and Violet arrived 4 years later. She always thought herself a better barmaid than mother but everyone insisted that was not the case. She had no other brothers and sisters so she had no experience with other siblings in the home. Iris watched other children and that was where Dora got the majority of her experience. Dora is quite a beautiful hobbit lass with wavy middle of back auburn hair and green eyes. The only thing that she does not like about herself is that she has a sprinkling of light brown freckles all over her body which she calls the `curse`. Outside of being a barmaid, Dora has many things to occupy her time. She has quite a way with animals and made sure that the house her children live in now has two cats which are her favorite animal. She loves to quilt and has made many quilts that she has sold to make a little bit of extra money. Dora also has a love of baking and often lends a hand during events that need a bit of her baking expertise. She is a wonderful mother to her children and is there to lend a helping hand to her girls.

Robin Took traveled from Combe to Bree to make a better life for himself when he was 35 years of age. Shy and peaceful Robin had not come to Bree to find a wife and raise a family- he was there to become a brewer. He would have grabbed one quickly on behalf of his looks. He has soft and curly sandy brown hair and blue eyes as clear as window glass. He has a background in brewing wines and spirits but would never touch beer. He taught Violet to appreciate the art of brewing wines and allowed her to help him create. He loves to fish and would go to a local fishing hole any day that it was not raining using a boat hand-crafted by himself to go out into the middle of the lake to get the best results. He also gave the girls and the rest of the family the gift to read and write which he learned from his grandmother. Robin learned how to knit and readily uses the skill to fix garments and other knitted items that have been damaged. He has a gentle spirit that many others would not expect to be present in a male hobbit.

Daisy Took is Violet`s sister but you could never tell that the two sisters were even remotely related. Violet`s older sibling looks much like her mother except that she does not have any freckles. Dora and Robin had their jobs at The Prancing Pony and for many years, Daisy was more of a mother than a sister to Vi. She always made sure that Violet had her bath and was ready for a story by the time their parents got home in the early evening. Besides being the perfect sister, Daisy prides herself as being an expert with ponies and is a regular at the homes of many who owned one or more of these gentle animals. She cares for any pony that needs help, providing walks, special healthy treats and a through grooming. She enjoys writing poems about the events that go on around her and writes for the pleasure and not the fame.

Current Residence
She makes her home in Bree so that she can be closer to her family and friends.

Distinguishing Marks
She has only one scar that sets her apart from almost every other female in the Shire. She can remember the day clearly even though it has been so many years since her seventh birthday. She was with her grandmother at the family home. Inside it was decorated quite nicely with ribbons and other decorations that would make it feel more like spring than winter. Her sister had spent two days cutting out and designing flowers for the special event out of paper. Like any sister, however, she had turned into a monster when it came to any special day that included Violet. On her last birthday, Violet had smeared her face with chocolate cake and was grounded for a week. Violet now understands why it was not good to get her to sample the icing.

She and Daisy were both wearing coordinating dresses- her sister was wearing an emerald green dress and Violet was dressed in a beautiful sky blue dress. Both went down to the floor and had two layers. They were made even larger by the fact that the girls wore petticoats underneath. Lace was attached to the collar, cuffs, and bottom of the dress. The girls had ringlets which their grandmother had prepared the night before by tying rags through the mess of waves belonging to each girl.

Since it was not yet snowing, our mother insisted that we wear straw hats decorated with flowers to wear to The Prancing Pony. The only trouble was that Daisy did not want to wear the hat that belonged to Ms. Took. In the beginning, both thought that it would be a nice idea if they switched hats. Hers had a yellow ribbon and the hat belonging to Violet had a blue one. It started as a little bit of light fun. They chased each other in and out of the bedrooms on the second level. The fight got bad when her hat was dropped off of the balcony. Daisy went crazy- she chased her sister down the stairs and then up the other side. The second floor landing had two sets of stairs one on the left and one on the right. The chase concluded at the dining room table. Daisy ended up running right under the table, but Violet had the unfortunate accident of colliding with the head of the dining room table where their father normally placed his chair.

She can remember the blood dripping down the center of her forehead in little drops. Her grandmother Iris ran over to the table and held Violet close to her body as she lifted her off the floor. Iris had screamed at Daisy and made her cry. It was the first thing that the distraught hobbit lass could do. At the end of it all, Violet was left with a 4 inch gash in the middle of her forehead. To this day, Violet has not forgiven Daisy for the gash or missing her own birthday party at The Prancing Pony.
