On a bright July 1^st in 2004, the fields surrounding Isengard were filled with archery targets and eager wizards wishing to prove their worth and take home the prize. Two questions were asked of participants each round, one being a Tolkien related question, the other not. Scores were awarded based on creativity, originality and knowledge.

First Round Questions
Q. At the Council of Elrond would you have volunteered to join the Fellowship? Why?
Q. Geep has tied you to the pinnacles of Orthanc with elven rope to stop you leaving Isengard. How do you escape? (Note: No points will be awarded for copying Gandalf )

Second Round Questions

Q. Which character from Tolkien’s books do you think would be your best friend? Why?
Q. Write a limerick about one of your rulers! (a limerick has lines 1, 2 and 5 with 8 syllables and rhyming with each other, and lines 3 and 4 with 5 syllables and rhyme)

Third Round Questions

Q. What gift would you ask of Galadriel in Lothlorien?
Q. A strange new illness strikes one of your friends. Name it, describe it and explain how it is cured!

Fourth Round Questions

Q. What advice would you give to Gimli before entry to Lothlorien?
Q. A mini uruk-hai is running riot in the Isengarden and destroying all the plants. How would you trap it?

Fifth Round Questions

Q. Which Tolkien character do you respect most and why?
Q. You and your friends are gathered round the palantir to watch a movie set in Middle Earth. What is it called and what is it about?

An epic movie starring Melanwie Gibsow as Braveheart Willow Wallow, an ordinary Gondorian man whose wife Marrow is murdered by an Orc Captain.   This tale tells of his rise to leader of his people in the fight to free his kingdom and its people from the rule and slavery of the evil Sauron (played by himself).  Includes many battle scenes, stunning scenery, fake accents and for all you female wizzies out there.... some bare male rears.

Sixth Round Questions

Q. If you were to perform one deed in the whole of the War of the Ring, what would it be?
(Note: no points will be awarded for saying, “Destroy the Ring” ;-))
Q. You have a great idea for a new contraption, an Arda “modern convenience”. What is it?

Final Round Questions

Q. Take any one quote from Tolkien’s books and relate it to modern day life.
Q. You invent a midge repellent for a journey through Midgewater; what’s in it?
