The story of Aelfwine is the strangest and most rewarding tale ever heard. That story begins long ago... in a small Men's village in the western Middle-Earth, prior to Sauron's downfall. In that village a distinct and somewhat aloof figure was one Aelfwine, who was more interested in sea and ancient tales of the Elves than in everyday work in his house. When Aelfwine grew into a man, he oft went on distant journeys alone, seeking Elves and traversing the seas. His fellow villagers mocked him for that, calling it nonsense and him a loony. One day, however, whether by chance or by some divine intervention he encountered a group of nomad Elves, who were extremely rarely seen then and considered a false myth by Men. He never met them before, but he recognized them immediately. He approached them and bid them welcome. However, they didn't care much for him, as the leader of the elven party was a forefather of Gildor Inglorion, the Elf that met Frodo when he began his quest. As Gildor, so did this Elf lead his people into the Grey Havens, to set sail to Tol Eressea. Aelfwine followed them in secret, and before they disappeared into the Straight Way, known only to Elves, a violent storm sank their ship and left them floating on logs with no chance of survival. He immediately went there to rescue them, and despite the storm being an experienced sailor he was rescued them all. In an amazing display of gratitude, the Elves led his ship and him across the Straight Way, and into Valinor. The Powers observed his journey and heroism since the beginning, and have so withheld the ancient ban placed on the Men, that should they set foot upon Valinor they will die. It is also said that it was done because Manwe was tired of solely Elvish company, and desired to see some of the Atani again. Therefore when he knelt before the Regent of Arda, the following words were uttered: Heed my words, ye mortal Aelfwine... grim days cometh to Middle-Earth, grim so that we shall be forced to send our own kin to aid the Children of Eru in fight against their foe, Sauron. Manwe, empowered in that instant by Eru Iluvatar, then gave Aelfwine two choices, to stay here and live in bliss as a reward for his selfless and courageous deed, or to return to Middle-Earth and begin his life anew... as a Maia sent to help the opressed against Sauron. This task was not without risk... as Sauron grew more powerful than any Maia alone. He accepted however, and became known as Dawnbringer the Maia. His name was given to him by Arien, Maia of the Sun, as he offered to be her bodyguard during dawn and dusk, when her power was weakest. He did that knowing what Sun meant to Mortal men, and attacks from outer parts of Ea became frequent at that time. As a token of gratitude, Varda Elentari gave him a sword, the Redeemer. The Redeemer is a sword unlike any other, hallowed by the light of the Silmaril itself, making it lethal beyond compare to all servants of Evil, but harmless to anyone else. Equipped so, he came with the first known Maia sent to Middle-Earth, called Saruman by Men, but he is unknown to them because of his origins and his nature... he was sent by Mithrandir and Curunir to Mordor, to spy on the Enemy. He was caught by Sauron the Deceiver, and introduced into dark and necromantic powers, hoping to lure him to his side. When he learned all he could, he feigned allegiance with Sauron. The last test was to murder an Elf prisoner Sauron had. There was no one in that dungeon except Dawnbringer, Sauron and the prisoner. He unsheathed the Redeemer, swung it and struck at the Elf. The Elf was unharmed, but at the same time Dawnbringer struck, Sauron laughed evilly, glad of his new ally's deed. Dawnbringer reacted quickly, and with his Redeemer cut through Sauron's finger holding the cell keys like knife through air itself. Only later did the story of Isildur cutting off Sauron's finger appear... at the request of Dawnbringer himself, to prevent unwanted attention. He returned to Isengard, where he remains until today, practicing arts of magic both black and white, but never forgetting his original purpose on the Middle-Earth. His character is rather unpredictable, and the only thing you can be certain about him is that whatever you think he'll say or do, it will be exactly the opposite. He enjoys a good laugh, has a keen sense of sarcasm and a great love for languages, chivalry, manners, honor and books. He values friendship and love above all other things, and would give his life for the life of his Istari brethren or his Istari beloved... a person he has not yet revealed... Your enthrallment with the Void has led me to choose black for your robes, not to mention you have listed it as a preferred color. Black is in fact the absence of color, so it fits this aspect of your character well - a fascination with the unknown and nothingness. Often associated with evil, that is not necessarily true, though black does signify power, and I sense within you a lust for power that has thus far been considerably checked, but yet it shows itself at certain times. When combined with red, as I have done with this braided trim across the chest and down the sleeves, the combination creates a definite aura of aggressiveness, so I do not recommend your wearing this when welcoming newbies, lest you scare them away from Isengard. On the bright side, I have known you to be quite joyful outgoing. You have stated that Dawn is your favorite time of day. This reflects a hopeful soul, an awakening of the senses and your surroundings. *Turning the robe over, she demonstrates the beadwork across the back* These are mithril beads, and you can see that they are in a sunburst pattern, signifying the first rays reaching over the horizon to light Arda as Arien guides the sun on its course, for she is the appointed Dawnbringer. |
