Eldar King was in origin a maia of Ulmo. He lived long in the sea, becoming fast friends with Osse, whose wrath stirs up the seas in great tumults. Through his friend, Eldar King has developed an affinity with water, lending him some power over the liquid of his master Ulmo.

Once, very long ago, Eldar King was speaking with Ulmo, soaking in as much knowledge as possible from the pillar of wisdom, when Ulmo asked if he would be willing to travel to Middle Earth as an Istar. Eldar King was, needless to say, overjoyed. Being sent to Middle Earth, he had always wished to go, and now Ulmo was sending him.

Before sending him off, Ulmo instructed Eldar King, saying: “You must remember, EK, that you are there to serve the people of Middle Earth, you shall never ally yourself with the Minions of Sauron. I give you leave to join the Elves and Men in their fights, but you must always fight for good, oppose evil to the end of your strength.”

“Yes, my Lord. I shall do as you say, I will learn all there is to know in Middle Earth, and I will use this knowledge in whatever ways I can for the benefit of the Children of Iluvatar. I thank thee for giving me this honor, for considering my worthy of thy service.”

“I have confidence in you, Eldar King.” Those were the last words directly spoken between Eldar King and Ulmo, for Ulmo had urgent matters to attend to, and Eldar King was eager to be off. However, Elk maintains contact with Ulmo through the rivers and streams of Middle Earth. He has also honored his promise to Ulmo, joining with the Elves and Men of Middle Earth.

Upon stepping ashore in the ruined port of Vinyalond, Eldar King began traveling about Middle Earth, visiting all places yet not making himself public to everyone. After gaining what he deemed enough lore and wisdom of Middle Earth to begin helping the Free Peoples, he made himself known in the White Council. Not spending much time in Isengard, he continued his traveling, eventually finding a second home in the Middle Earthian Alliance, now known as the High Order of Ilúvatar. This organization is dedicated to the same cause which Ulmo set upon Eldar King, and thus he is now, an Istar, and a member of the HOI, and a servant of Ulmo.

Eldar King’s robes are blue with a hint of grey. He has several robes, some he wears while journeying and fighting, and others while debating. He makes sure to look his best on any formal occasion, as it is his firmest belief that despite the validity of the words which proceed from ones mouth, men will take also into account the appearance of the speaker.

Eldar King’s staff in made of Oak, it is not carved perfectly, there are many bumps and nicks in it, but it is worn smooth from use. The bottom is shod in steel, and the top is carved into the likeness of a wolf’s head, the eyes of which are sapphires, reminding him of his service to Ulmo. The staff was provided for him by Ulmo himself, before Eldar King set out for Middle Earth.
