Before the stars were placed in the sky. Before the world was, there lived an Ainur. In the Timeless Halls he dwelt from the beginning. He played in the great music of the Ainur, and stumbled even when Melkor rang up his own accord. The vision of Arda did he see. And his heart yearned to dwell within the confines of Arda. Therefore, he did go forth with the Ainur, to Arda and dwelt therein. As the Ainur separated into the Valar and the Maiar, he chose to become a Maiar of Ulmo. For in the waters of Arda did his spirit feel most at peace. The power of water was great and so was his Lord. Then it was that he named himself, Feanen, Spirit of Water.

The Ages rolled on, and Feanen viewed the changing of Arda and the marring thereof. He fought against Melkor in all that he did. For he never trusted the Dark Lord, not even when Melkor dwelt in Valinor after the coming of the Elves. Feanen loved the Elves greatly. He loved their company and to teach them. Close to his heart were the Teleri, the Elves of the Sea. Feanen’s friend and fellow servant, Osse taught the Elves of sailing and shipbuilding, though Feanen wished to, he knew it was not his place. Unlike his Lord, Feanen journeyed oft to Valinor and especially to the Halls of Nienna. There he learned of patience, pity and meekness. He loved the Valie for her wisdom and kindness. Feanen’s heart never let him stay in one place for long. It loved to travel and journey. He also wandered many times to the Halls of Manwë and Varda. Upon the Everwhite Mountain he journeyed many times. He sat in audience with the Lady Varda as long as he could. He watched her place the stars in the sky, and that was when his heart stirred once more. Feanen wondered at the stars in the sky and the light that shown in them.

Feanen’s heart was saddened at the darkening of Valinor and the rebellion of the Noldor. Ever were they his friends, and did he love them. It was then that Feanen returned to the waters of Arda and to his Lord once more. To help the Elves and Men against the wiles of Morgoth. Throughout the First Age, Feanen aided the Elves and Men silently and in ways unseen to all, save his Lord and the Lord Manwe. Once the First Age drew to a close, and Earendil came to Valinor, Feanen’s took on a body and went forth to battle. He fought with the Armies of the West in the War of Wrath, felling many orcs and other dark creatures. As the Second Age dawned, Feanen desired to aid the Elves and Men once again. Against the new Dark Lord, Sauron. The Servant of Melkor. Feanen went before his Lord, Ulmo, and inquired as to how he could help. It was then that the Lord called Feanen to journey to Middle-Earth, clothed as an Elf, and help them. That they may better withstand the power and might of Sauron. The Lord Manwe and the Lady Varda, whom he served faithfully as he did Lord Ulmo, also sent Feanen on the journey.

Then it was that he went forth into Middle-Earth, in the form of an Elf. Tall, with brown hair and pale blue eyes. As he reached Mithlond, he met with Cirdan. The only one who knew of whence Feanen came. After dwelling in Mithlond for several months, Feanen journeyed deeper into Middle-Earth. Once he learned the language of the Sindar, he changed his name to Faenen. The Sindarin equivalent to his High Elven name. As Faenen journeyed toward the High King’s city, he realized that he was being too eager. He could not convince the King of who or what he was. It was then that he decided to join the Elven Army. Several years after joining the army, Faenen took a small leave and journeyed deeper into Middle-Earth. As he did, he could feel and see the presence of the Numenoreans. They had long interested Faenen. It was then that he decided to go to Numenor. He came by secret in the dark of the night, as the he heard rumors that the Numenoreans had fallen into darkness. He had heard also there were some that still were faithful to Eru. As he wandered, in secret across the vast country, he came across someone. There was something in her eyes that reminded Faenen of someone he had once known. It was then that he realized she was the one that her Lady Varda had warned her about. While Faenen met with the Lady Varda, before he was sent to Middle-Earth, she warned him of someone who had been sent before him. She warned Faenen not to interfere with her mission, for if he did he would suffer the wrath of Ulmo, and of Varda. Faenen did not say anything to the woman, but nodded kindly and continued on his journey.

He served the army faithfully throughout the Second Age. The War of the Alliance drew nigh and Faenen knew it would be a harsh battle, and many would die. Nevertheless, Faenen felt as though he had helped the Elves, though it was by small means. He fought with the armies of the Elves and Men against the power of Sauron. Once Sauron fell, Faenen felt it was time for him to return to Valinor and to rest. As he went to set forth to the West, a great wind fell upon the boat, and pushed it back to Middle-Earth. Confused at what had happened, Faenen sought for the wisdom of his Lord Ulmo. The Lord Ulmo came to him and told Faenen that his mission was not over. That the Lord Sauron was not destroyed, as the One Ring still survived. Faenen had failed his mission and was not allowed in Valinor until the Dark Lord was no more. Faenen argued his case to the Lord of Waters, but Ulmo would not hear it.

So it was that Faenen rebeled against the Valar. He journeyed into the East and dwelt in the land of Khand. Away from the Variags and the Wainriders, did he dwell. For they did not like the Elves, and though Faenen was a Maia, he was clothed in an Elf’s body. Despair came upon his soul. He did not know where to find the Dark Lord, nor how to destroy the One Ring. If he was to get the One Ring, he would need to take it by force from Isildur. Faenen then journeyed back West, to the lands of Rhovanian. It was there that he found a secret lair near the Misty Mountains, in the vail of the Anduin. He journeyed often to the Golden Woods, in search of information about the Ring. Little did he find, until he heard the Isildur would be traveling toward Rivendell. Faenen left the Golden Wood and returned to his home at the foot of the Misty Mountains. A few days before Isildur was expected to arrive near Faenen’s dwelling, rumors a large band of orcs within the forest , reached his ears.

He journeyed into the Forest, near Amon Lanc. It was time he used his Elven form once again to its best ability. He caught sight of the Orc band a day or so later. And they caught scent of him. He grinned at his plan. He would lead the band of orcs to Isildur, and take the Ring from his dead body. Then he would take the Ring to his Lords. For the human was not worthy to bear such a trinket. After running from the Orcish band for two days, he finally lead them to Isildur’s camp. Faenen feld ito the River, and across. He watched from a distance the slaughter that took place. He made sure to keep an eye on Isildur, so he could take the Ring once he was dead. Isildur used the Ring to try and escape from the orcs. His attempt was useless, as he was shot as the Ring fell from his finger. Faenen could see the King, even though he had the Ring on. Though he was in the form of an Elf, he could still see the shadow realm. Once the orcs had gone, Faenen went to the river to try and find the One Ring.

As he leapt into the water, he could feel something pulling him. Sudenly he felt a great power surging up the river. Fear took him as he realized it was Ulmo. Faenen swam for the shore to try and reach it before Ulmo could reach him. His attempt failed, just as Isildur’s. Ulmo dragged Faenen back to Valinor. There he was thrown down before the Valar at the Ring of Doom to stand trial for the death of Isildur. It was there that Feanen plead for forgiveness and explained to the Valar what his intentions were. Nevertheless, Feanen was sentenced to one thousand years within the Halls of Mandos. With a head hung low, and sorrow in his soul, he was taken to the Halls of Mandos to be kept.

As the years drew on, Feanen stayed within the Halls of Mandos, prisoner as was Melkor. It was there that he realized the folly of his ways, and sowed for forgiveness from Eru and from the Valar. He had caused the death of many. The entire of Isildur’s host, and all but one of his sons. Feanen’s sorrow for his misdeeds harrowed up his soul with great torment for one thousand years.

After his sentence was through, he was brought before the Circle of Doom once again. There he begged once more for forgiveness. He explained how he had been misguided by his own pride and he wished to make it up to the Valar, and show them how he had repented of his misdeed. Then it was that Manwe could see the sincerity within the eyes and the heart of Feanen. Manwe told Feanen that he would be forgiven, if only he would journey back to Middle-Earth and help once and for all to overthrow Sauron and all his mighty servants. And if he was successful, then he would be forgiven.

So it was that Feanen traveled back to Middle-Earth. He landed once again in Mithlond. The form of an Elf was his once again. The same as he was in the Second Age. Cirdan looked questioningly at Faenen. The Maia grinned sheepishly, but sorrow remained in his eyes. He told none of what he had done. For it was believed that the orcs were seeking revenge for the fall of the Dark Lord. Faenen rejoined the Elven Army, this time as one of the Sea Forces. This time around, he worked hard and fought just as furiously. There he met an Elven Lady by the name of Aurethil. Who was the Second General of the Elven Army. She took Faenen in as one of her sons and he loved her as a mother. Though he never knew what it was like to have a mother, he was glad that she took him in as her own. After several years, Faenen climbed to the rank of Captain in the Sea Forces. He lead the company for several more years before resigning. It was then that Faenen journeyed to the Golden Wood. For they had little defenses and save by the power of the Lady Galadriel’s Ring, they were protected.

It came to pass that Faenen took up residence within the woods of Lorien. After a hidious attack by the Dark Forces, Faenen was promoted to Arachir of the Guard of the Golden Wood. Aided by the Arachiril, the Lord and Lady of the Wood, the Guard was set up and the wood’s defenses were strengthened. After several years of leadership within the Guard, Faenen resigned from Arachir, and passed it on to his most trusted Warden, Nayeldraccon. He journeyed to Mirkwood after he left Lorien. The Elves of Mirkwood had already fortified themselves against he coming darkness, for their King was wise. He dwelt among them for only a few years before he returned to Rivendell. The Elves were leaving Middle-Earth, and Men were growing strong. The Fellowship had left only days before he returned to Rivendell. It was there was Faenen dwelt until the Fall of Sauron and the destruction of the One Ring. Although Faenen was not at the final battle, he felt as though he had accomplished what he needed to. He had helped in the Elven Army, and also with the formation of the Lorien Guard. As Faenen made his way to the Grey Havens to sail West once again, he was stopped once again by his Lord Ulmo. Ulmo explained that he needed to stay, for though Sauron had been defeated, a great darkness might be unleashed once again. And thus it is that Feanen remained in Middle-Earth, to help the Men of the Fourth Age, and the remaining Elves, to fight against this new darkness.
