From across the sundering sea, came Fyrbana the Fire Bane, maiar of Ulmo but learned also of Manwe and Tulkas. After coming to Middle Earth, she lingered by the seas and rivers, for she loved the sound of the waves and the gentle touch of water on her feet. On the edge of the bays, she sang heart piercing songs and wandered on the sandy shores. Then one day, she heard a whisper on the wind, telling her to venture into Middle Earth. So accepting her duty, she at last left the ever moving sea, making her way to the forests of the land. There she found the reason for her coming. Fyrbana had her first look of orcs, who were hacking merciless at old trees and burning them down. She watched with horror, but her horror soon turned to anger and wrath. Her eyes gleamed cold and a mist gathered on a lake nearby. She whispered words and soon a gentle breeze was blowing the mist around and about her, so she was not seen by the orcs. Then she cried out in a clear terrible voice, "Gurth ’ni yrch! (death to the orcs!)" and sprang upon them with the light of the cruel flames reflecting in her eyes. Many she slew and the rest fled, only to be hunted one by one until none of that company remained.

When Fyrbana had at last finished her attack, she wept as she saw the devastation the orcs had contrived. She sang a long mournful sound and lingered on the trampled grass. For Fyrbana had grown to love the trees of the forest, even though her heart still longed for the sea. From that time on, Fyrbana resolved in her heart to rid the land of the filth that Sauron had created. She traveled along the borders of the Shire for some time, helping the dunedan protect the fertile country. Whenever she attacked, mists gathered and hid her from view. She was soon called the Falling Mist, and terror siezed the orcs whenever mist appeared.

After spending many years along the Shire’s borders, she decided she was needed else where. In the wild she came upon a swift silver stallion, who’s spirit was eager and his footsteps were light. She persuaded at last for him to be her steed and he was given the name Elendae. Together they swept the land and hunted their enemies. Her power grew and her eyes gleamed with a green light.

After wandering far, they found themselves at the Iron Hills and there, Fyrbana made friends with Sultur, the eagle lord of Thoron Orod. Their friendship blossomed and stayed strong. But again, Fyrbana felt as if she had a calling and left for the south.

Again, she found where she was needed. The people of Rohan were riding to Gondor’s aid yet orcs were trying to cross into their land at the same time. As the Rohirrim went to Minas Tirith, Fyrbana stayed near the rivers and fought off any enemy that dared cross. Soon after, Minas Tirith was saved and the ring of power was destroyed. Yet orcs and evil men still lingered.
