From Acorn to Leaf...an Istar of Musical Spirit...

Writing my histories is...a tiresome task. My nature is one of laughter and light, memory isn’t one of my gifts. But as I remember, I will write.

After the Great Song, I was formless and without substance. All I had was song...music filled my soul with passion and life...I was something. Then by chance, as chance it seemed all that time ago, I heard a sweet song echoing through my heart and traced it to Aman. Long I travelled through darkness and silence, following the voice to Arda where I found Kementári singing upon the mound of Túna. As I watched, the Valar gathered to watch the birth of Yavanna’s greatest creation. Suddenly, with a radiance and beauty I cannot describe Telperion shimmered defiantly against the night, his flowers burgeoning with silver dew, and Laurelin spilled her golden light upon the grass.

From then on, I followed Yavanna as an Istar, seeking to use music and compassion against the darkness that threatened to encompass men, to plant the acorn of hope and laughter in as many hearts as I could. I remember little about my time during the first and second ages, but the third age awakened me completely from the drowsiness that had befallen the powers of good, and war was stirred. I made my way to Middle Earth.I did not fight in the Last Alliance, that was a battle for others to fight. I watched from the shadows as evil was apparently destroyed, and as the battle field was cleared I saw the foundations of Barad-dúr against the horizon. Foresight failed, and again the sleep of peace fell on all.

I wandered, known little to elves, dwarves or men. I would often meander through Mirkwood, until the spiders came and darkness fell again. I could not say if Thranduil was aware of me...I wasn’t of him. The shadow regrew, and Olórin discovered it’s identity and purpose. Curúnir dissuaded further efforts of violence, and I admit I was glad. Many valiant spirits had died before the tower of Barad-dúr before their time. I heard of the Quest of Erebor and the Battle of Five Armies, but the fight was not for me. I watched the Quest for Mount Doom with foreboding, and watched the ring bearers sail to whence I had come. I nearly followed.

At that moment, I saw my reason for being was to help the peoples left behind. Through laughter, and mirth, good food and companionship, I would endeavour to tend my sapling of comraderie and bring forth fruit of kindness and love in every heart. Until my quest is achieved I remain, Lirindíl, song-lover, unto the breaking of the world when things shall be made right that are wrong.

I have forgotten much, and no doubt I will learn more as I go on. Little do I know of Middle Earth, and I’m constantly learning and changing. Although I write no songs of my own, I rejoice in music from all kindreds, and use it in my journey. Even more so, I rejoice in the varied spirits I have encountered, and those I have yet to meet, learning of others dreams, laughing with them when they smile, and listening when they are sorrowful. Until such time as mankind is satisfied with their lust for domination, my heart will guide my council, and wisdom shall be my strength. The heart has reasons of it’s own, and I shall draw on those I meet to help me in my quest, be they one of the peoples, bird or beast.
