Mordor’s New Army. Something that in the minds of many had been long overdue in the grand scheme of things. The old garrison system had been showing signs of age for some times, it was fractured, slow, inefficient, and incapable of defending Mordor against those who would conspire against it. As a result of this when Mordor’s Parliament was re-opened and Minas Morgūl was chosen to govern it after its Black Captain’s (Inzilbeth) noble deeds in the Battle of the Last Alliance plans were set in motion that would change the face of Mordor’s army forever. Deep within the Fortress of Minas Morgūl, hidden far from the eyes of those who would oppose such an idea plans for the death of the Garrisons were being drawn up long before parliament would formally ask for such a plan of action.

Within its Iron Walls Proposals were drawn up and torn down, ideas were fired back and forth faster than arrows from the string and slowly a proposal began to be formed to be presented to parliament. The Main Points finally decided upon that had to be addressed in order for the new army to function properly were:

  • The Removal of the Garrison System- The Army would not work if it was divided with 9 separate divisions that replicated each other’s role.

  • The Creation of a New Rank system that would afford a clear chain of command with room for clear promotion.

  • It needed to be placed within the Kingdom- House threads that gave no points for posts were responsible for decreasing interest in the army.

  • Clear Training Methods had to be implemented- Previously training had not followed a set regime and as a result the quality of posters had differed.

  • RPGs and other Activities had to be provided in order to sustain interest in the army over a period of time.

These points were debated and discussed before they finally reached the point where they could be brought before Parliament for all to discuss and the cloak of secrecy that had been cast over the Army reforms for so long could finally be cast aside.

The Proposal

The Proposal that was eventually brought before Parliament called for a variety of things, some of which discussion was permitted for, and other things discussion was denied upon. The main item were such discussion was denied was the death of the garrisons. The reforms hinged upon their destruction and as a result whether they would be decommissioned or not was not an option. Those within the garrisons were given two weeks to say their goodbyes and prepare for the new regime, though their ideas were still welcomed in other areas.

In other areas fierce debates raged over the number of Divisions for the new army to have with the final number of 3. One for the Blades, one for the Archers, and one for the Scouts. These would form the crux of Mordor’s new army with which a strong offence and defence could be effectively launched. Furthermore criteria were laid down for a regimented training system designed to provide quality, effective training in the shortest time possible, Moreover plans for a clear scale of promotion were also established so that army members always possessed the ability of knowing exactly where they were heading in terms of their army careers.

And so it was, once all possible topics of discussion had been exhausted the Dark Lord Sauron finally decreed that the new Army would be formed with its initially leaders of Inzilbeth, Maugān and leader of the army, Umarth, Tharkuiga and head of the archers, Turin, Gushir and head of the Scourts, and Byg Sci, Iathaur and head of the Blades. These four individuals would form the Armies War Council that would replace the parliament and guide it through its initial phases.

Structure

The army was structured in the following ways. Above it all stood the Maugān who would organise and co-ordinate the divisions. Beneath him would come the division heads who would be responsible for running their respective divisions. Beneath them would come the Ashans, the division trainers and the elite of the army. Following on from them would come the Sadans who would compromise of the more experienced troops in the army. Below them would come the Dildhans, those recruits who had just passed training and likely the bulk of the army itself and finally below them would come the Snagas, those recruits who were untrained.

Early Days

The Early days of the army met with significant degrees of success as a mass of individuals signed up for the army, somewhat overwhelming a War Council that was short of trainers and leaving them with masses of individuals to train in a short time. A task which they met head on with teeth bared and sword raised, A testament to their dedication, skill, and determination though in typical Mordor fashion the amount of individuals who actually attended as completely training was somewhat limited. But would you have Mordor any other way?

Of course even though the amount who wished to receive training was less than had signed up, it still called for a separate thread to be set up. This being the Blood Fields which served the needs of the Blades and Archers with the Scouts utilising the Annuals of Angmar and the Black Pits as they delved deep into the dark arts of subterfuge, interrogation, tracking, and espionage.

However even with the new army changes were still taking place. The resignation of the WitchKing Rohanna led to Inzilbeth, the Muator of the army to taking her place which in turn led to Turin, the Gushir being promoted to Maugān and Vinyatur taking his place. Furthermore due to an unexplained and extended leave of absence Sardarius was called upon to replace Umarth as head of the archers so that his talents could best be utilised in providing Mordor with an active, highquality, archery division.

The opening of a new division prompted Lurtz’ promotion to Ghabahir, to head the siege division so as to oversee its effectiveness in battle and so that Mordor will never be caught off guard when confronted with strengthened defences. Also, the War Council instituted of a series of small campaigns or mini battles through which it provided Mordor an effective outlet for it to exert its strength upon Middle Earth and prove that we are once again a power to be feared. Thus equipped, Maugān Tśrin, Iathaur Byg Sci, Gūshir Vinyatur, Tharkuiga Sardarius, and Ghabahir Lūrtz set to work flexing this might for a time.

All good things must end, though, and this was no different. This illustrious War Council was broken by Tśrin's promotion to Gothmog, Lord of Balrogs, upon the resignation of Mandallah Sauron. Byg Sci was called upon to fill Tśrin's role as Maugān, and so he did for a time, but the army soon began to encounter troubled waters. The Gūshir Vinyatur decided it was time to move on; and Sardarius had, like the previous Tharkuiga Umarth, disappeared without explanation. With the closing of the Seige Division, Lurtz was shifted to become the Iathaur and Isil Mornungol and Crystal were promoted to Gūshir and Tharkuiga, respectivly. For a time it looked as if the Army would recover, but it was not yet to be. Lūrtz and Isil each encountered troubles and came to the conclusion they must each resign their post,Byg Sci began spending more time alone in his tower and less with the army, to the point where he, too, was believed to have dissapeared forever. A new War Council was thus formed, Crystalen taking the seat of Maugān and Gaurlukh taking the sword of Iathaur, Akilah becoming the Gūshir, and Volgavia the Tharkuiga. This, too, however, was not permanent, for Crystalen soon resigned the post, leaving the command of the Army of Mordor to Akilah.

The Army Today

With the promotion of Akilah, the army was closed down for revisions. The Army had been steadily declining in numbers due to the comings and goings among the officer corps, and so it had come to the point where if any more officers departed, the army might have been incapable of replacing them. The three remaining on the War Council, however, Akilah, Gaurlukh, and Volgavia, quickly and efficiently set to work on some reforms. They opened a survey to gain the input of non-officers on what might improve the army such that they might wish to join. After recieving many and varied comments, the three set to work discussing much-needed changes in organization and protocol within in Army. With the end of the Olympics in early December of 2005, the War Council hopes to have the revised army open again and ready for applicants.
