CORPSE LILY

Here’s an extract of a larger taxonomic treatise found within an ancient library of the Barad-dûr:
...and naught that had life of its own, not the semblance of life, could Melkor make since his rebellion in the Ainulindale before the Beginning...

Alas, without the Flame Imperishable we can forge but twisted perversions of Yavanna’s children. Nevertheless, the Fire that Destroys has, by slow arts of evolution and the expedience of husbandry, unveiled a further mockery that improves upon her misguided vision.

CORPSE LILY: One of the few flowering plants to flourish in our Dark Lord’s realm - only asphodel being more common - the corpse lily is easily identified by the foul scent it exudes, an aroma that resembles the odor of decaying flesh. This malodorous putrescence is not only aesthetically pleasing but fulfills the additional function of attracting its pollinators: the ubiquitous flies of Mordor.

The corpse lily is the largest flowering plant in Middle-earth and blossoms only on starless nights. Despite its frequency, few naturalists have observed the corpse lily up close. Those few who’ve returned from these occasional encounters have led substance to the rumors of its carnivorous nature.
