Behaviour Patterns of the Common Orc

From Medieval Macabre - see Picture Credits

Here is yet another helpful hint from your denizen of Mordor, Grishnak. Unofficial, self-proclaimed expert on the wildlife in Mordor. This page will focus on the common Mordor orc, the area's most populous denizen.

The common orc can be found in every terrain of Mordor. They inhabit all corners, dark tunnels and deepest pits. Simply put, you will have little trouble finding this creature. Note: they prefer darkness to daylight.

The orc of Mordor is a very social creature...as long as you are an orc yourself. Orcs travel in well armed, large groups. One word best sums up the behavior pattern of an orc: COWARD. If encountered alone (which is rare), the orc can be easily intimidated or frightened off. Or, if you are prepared, easily defeated. However, when encountered in their usual numbers, several dozen to several thousands, they become very brave and very aggressive! Make all attempts to avoid large bands of orcs.

Orcs are rude, crude and generally obnoxious. They make lousy conversationalists as they use foul language, have bad breath, and all talk inevitably leads to killing someone or something..including you! They are also very lazy creatures when not involved in war. If not led by a strong leader, they will always avoid duty, dodge responsability, and begin plotting against each other.

If you must speak with an orc, be prepared to hear squeals, grunts and other sounds intermixed with their words. Orcs are overly fond of strong drink, and this is a weakness that can be exploited by the Mordor traveler. Simply keep a hip flask full of strong drink handy....or several of them if you find yourself surrounded by a few dozen!
