Easterlings on the March

Aim: to uncover the truth about rumours of revolution in Rhûn.

Great Witch King, and rulers of the land, a grave report has reached the ears of operatives from Mordor. Rumours are flying of action in Rhûn, that the Easterlings are coming together, secretly, under cover of darkness. One operative, known to our agents as 007.5, managed to infiltrate one of their secret meetings and sent the following report:

"It was awful! A whole area of forest had been cut down, forming a circular arena of more than 200 Balrogs' diameter. Moonlight was pouring in, lighting up the scene and disgustingly beautiful music was being made. As I looked, hundreds of Easterling warriors marched into the clearing, forming up in swift, precise ranks. I saw weapons of Westernesse, with blades that gleamed a piercing white in the air. They were marked off in four regiments, each with a dozen archers in Mithril mail in the foreground. As I watched, silence fell, bringing a welcome cease to the harps and flutes that had previously poisoned the glorious mirk of Mordor. The ground began to rumble, rolling as if Mount Doom itself had collapsed in flames. The moon disappeared behind the night clouds and a herd of at least six beasts, Oliphants of War, stomped into the midst of the crowd. Before I left, overcome by sheer terror, I noticed one Easterling mount the leading beast and begin to harangue the soldiers, in a war-like tone."

It seems, then, that the Easterlings are arming themselves with blades stolen from the old Barrows of the Numenoreans. My department humbly suggests that a Balrog is sent to co-ordinate efforts, to ensure the Easterlings aren’t corrupted by Goodness. Our intelligence suggests they need a reminder of the proximity and greatness of Sauron’s Power.
