It was a cold winter night. A pregnant woman walked with difficulty in the snow and mild drizzle. The time was nearing and she knew it. She stealthily entered the barn of a poor farmer who could not afford to fence his farm properly to keep off scamps. The unfortunate woman died giving birth to a baby boy.

Born in a barn, dry grass was his cozy bed and he promptly wetted it. The child let out a cry of hunger and cold, which was unanswered. It cuddled around its mother’s corpse and slowly went into an undisturbed sleep. A scream was heard the next morning as the farmer’s wife had opened the barn door and had seen the child and its dead mother. She hurried to lift the child off the cold floor and wrap it around in her cold shawl. The child was adopted...

The coastal village in Umbar was brewing up with excitement as news of a fleet of corsair ships departing to conquer far lands reached them. The harbour was filled with people who had come to send off the corsair fleets. I am a 18 year old boy from India. I bumped into plaza accidentally when I was searching for some pictures of Liv Tyler and did I regret it??? No way! I had never bothered to read The Hobbit which was presented to me by my uncle some five years ago, but when the first movie was released I had finished LOTR and The Hobbit. The first books I read had stirred the passion for Tolkien in me and I soon read The Sil and Unfinished tales as well. I love reading books, listening to music and playing my guitar (badly though). I’m also quite an athlete and sports person and play cricket, basketball, volleyball, and chess for my zones and state level tourneys. I am presently starting my first year of university doing bachelor course in Biotechnology. And did I forget to say something??…I love science and MATHS!
