  Fangorn

Turning a New Leaf
Fangorn Ærendboda: Imbeannowyn: Feranfolc

As usual, let's start with the important tidings. The special ranks! Only three Ents have been rewarded this month: Halavana has received the SRC of Nivrim, Niennor has been walking around as Neldoreth this month and Riner has been playing the character of Beechbone. Rohirric congratulations to the three of them!

Another quite pleasant event has rejoiced the hearts of every Ent and Entwife: the entish squirrels have won the Interkingdom racing championships. To honor their little fellows, the Ents opened a very special pub… err… Pulb this month, The Pulb of Champions: Everyone posting in this pub needs to do so from the point of view of a squirrel. Mustn't be easy to switch personalities like that...after all, it's a long way from an Ent to a squirrel... But make sure to have a look, it's quite a funny read!

And on we go with the big news out of the tree kingdom. While the Ents always insisted on being pacifist and non offensive beings, they have created The Tree Guard, which is meant to be complementary to the Tree Garth. While the Tree Garth is defensive, the Tree Guard is a more offensive organisation, very much like the other kingdoms' armies, including an allegiance oath, the ranks of Marshal, shepherds (more tree-like), warriors, and many more. The current Marshals are no other than Mojo and Morim. A training thread has recently been opened to teach all the new entish recruits the "Way of the Warrior" (reminds me of some Samuraï movie I only watched yesterday *g*). If you want, have a look at the training camp.

Finally, we have another fun thread the Ents have come up with. It's simply called Ask your rulers a question. The rulers can be asked any questions. Really any! From the most serious, to the most silly question. And what's more, they decided to add a third person to answer questions... and this third question answering Ent will be changed every 50 posts. And the very first victim was no other than Thom Greenleaf. He definitely didn't have an easy job, answering questions like "Is the moon made of green cheese?" or "How do you manage 10,000 posts when you're so much younger (plaza-wise) than most of the other people with that many posts?" Make sure to check this out! The newest victim is Kaja.

For those still curious ones about our leafy friends, you're, of course, very welcome to visit the treeish kingdom whenever you want and check out their activities on your own.

  Khazad-Dűm
Changes in the Stone City
Khazad-Dűm Ærendbodas: Penny Ærdæg: Feranfolc

This month the dwarves of KD were host to a rare and wonderful event, a royal wedding, as the dwarven queen Dis was married to Lujan Stormwing in an elaborate ceremony lasting over a week. Presided over by King Aragorn, vows were exchanged, along with a pair of beautiful handmade rings. The celebration continues- drop by and bestow your good wishes upon the queen and her new husband!

The Plaza-wide Olympics are poised to begin and competitors from all kingdoms are poised to kick some serious tail. The dwarves have set up a running newscast in the Olympic News Center thread, and interviews with KD athletes, along with other updates, are pouring in. The Olympic team of dwarves (plus one ex-Gondorian!) eagerly awaits their chance to go for the gold.

Khazad-dûm is also currently hosting a brand new RPG. The Shards of Skeloirr'a began on the 25th and is being lead by Lujan. It revolves around the five Special Ranks that are awarded each month, and consequently the RPG will span several months. Shards is still in the sign-up phase and promises to be a successful undertaking.

Tired of upscale pubs where you get thrown out if you so much as looks cross-eyed at another patron? Brawlers rejoice, for the Drunkard's Delight pub has opened once again! Drinks are half off and the fighting is getting juicy, so scurry on over!

  Lothlórien
Under the Mallorn Trees
Lothlórien Ærendboda: Elarith: Feranfolc

After the flurry of news and activity in Lórien last month, it was something of a relief to find things settling down again in October. However, there's still plenty going on to keep everyone occupied!

The main activity this month has been I Vereth Firith - The Festival of Season Fading. Although just after dawn, the Elves and visitors are up and about, taking part in the various activities on offer over on the Lawn of Activities. The Fortune Telling Tent, which offers scrying, dream interpretation, palmistry, astrology and horoscopes, has been busy dishing out their predictions to curious customers. The Dueling Arena and Archery Range have seen people brushing up on their combat skills in a (relatively) safe environment. A less energetic activity is the Circle of Tales, where visitors can sit and recount their stories or simply listen to others tell their own. Whilst all this is going on, musicians have been providing some glorious songs, which have been a real treat for the ears.

Elsewhere in the Festival, the merchants have been doing a roaring trade down on Vendor's Lane. The Garment Crafters and Lothlórien Jewellery Association seem very popular, but there are numerous other goods on sale, including blown glass creations, candles, and weaponry. If all this shopping gets to be too much, there's always plenty of refreshment to be found at the Gardens of Lórien Café.

Although it's autumn everywhere else on the Plaza, winter seems to have struck early in the Golden Wood! A recent snowstorm has left Lórien lying under a thick blanket of snow, which would be a problem in other Kingdoms, but is no matter to the light-footed Elves who can simply walk over it. The Elves and visitors are currently enjoying the snow-filled fun, but is the snow as innocent as it appears? And what is that sound?

Like the rest of the Plaza, Lothlórien is gearing up for next month's Olympics over in Mordor. A surprising number of Elves have volunteered to visit the Black Land, given the somewhat hostile reception they have received there in the past. Teams are being arranged for almost all events, as well as the Kingdom banner and parade being organised. We can expect to see a good turn-out for Lórien in the Games, though it's not certain how many Elves will survive to make the return journey...

The Galadhrim are busy updating their Kingdom Page at the moment, and are submitting their artwork and poetry. From the contributions so far, it looks set to be a striking page when it's finished! In addition, a survey is being conducted to discover people's thoughts on Lórien since its creation is underway. R/A's are filling out their responses at the moment and then it will be the turn of the other Plaza members.

  Minas Tirith
Tidings from the White City
Minas Tirith Ærendboda: Sethiel Eluchil: Feranfolc

Last year's hosts of the first Middle Earth Olympics have taken a back seat as Mordor has planned the Dark Games this year. At the eve of their Opening Ceremonies, Minas Tirith bustles in preparation for the Olympiad. Most of the athletes have already left the city and are enroute to Mordor even as I write!

As I found out quite soon on my last trip to Minas Tirith, Laielinwen's Poetry Palace was buzzing with entries to this month's poetry contest. The theme was Queen Berúthiel, one of the few queens of Gondor to be immortalized in the minds of the common folk largely because of her 10 magical, spying cats. Some of the poems entered were lighthearted tales of the ancient Queen's mischief, while others were chilling discourses on her mysterious exile. The results of this month's contest have not been decided as of yet, but if you visit the Poetry Palace, archives of the entries are available for reading by the public.

After exiting the Poetry Palace in the Sixth circle, I jetted over to the nearby Naith’s Tower of Tales in the Telling, hoping I had not missed too much of the story. Very happy to have not, I settled down and listened to the continuation of the story, Addicted and Annoying. I marveled many different times at the skill in which the many different bards continued each others' words so seamlessly and flawlessly. After what seemed like far too short a time, I realized I had spent most of the morning and afternoon in first the Poetry Palace, and now the Tower of Tales. Needing fresh air, I exited quietly and made my way to the lower levels of Minas Tirith.

While I was ambling through the many streets and passageways of the White City, I came upon a street in the Third circle that I have never before visited. I asked a nearby Gondorian the name of the street we were in, and was told that it is called Pub Row. I was also told that it acts as a temporary home to various themed pubs that occur in the White City. I had walked only a short way up the street when the hair on my arms stood straight up. Venturing a quick peek into the closest window, I was horrified to find that I was looking into what was apparently a Pub of the Dead. Needless to say, I exited that section of the Third circle quite speedily, vowing to myself to venture back into it on another day to see what other secrets Pub Row holds.

After my rather traumatic experience with Pub Row, I decided that a visit with my friend Harbottle O. Goelightly at the Horn of Gondor Pub was just what my frazzled nerves required. So, I made my way down to the second circle and through the Marketplace and into the familiar Pub…

  Mordor
Pleas from the Dark Lands
Mordor Ærendboda: Deregaré: Feranfolc

And so last month, with the arrival of Rohanna to the throne of the Witchking, I had hoped that this troubled kingdom would now have two rulers that would last longer than the previous rulers. Alas, 'tis not so. Loke has, due to the unfortunate call of RL, had to resign. Not a new face in Valinor, Mandallah has been reinstated as Lord Sauron, may his reign of terror be a long and dreadful one.

Apologies for the numerous mistakes in my reporting of the last month's Mordor SCRs. It would be a shame to not honour the people who manage to achieve the amazing feat of bearing one of Mordor's SCR icons. So without further ado, this month's Mordor SCRs were as follows:

Firefly: Mumak rider, for working so hard behind the scenes to ensure Dark Games success.

Miriel Arien: Khamul, for co-winning Minion of the Month, the stealthlike racer Míriel Arien gets to be the essence of stealth.

Aure: Easterling, for co-winning Minion of the Month, and because she simply adores the showy chapeau, Aure is given the Easterling once again.

Congratulations to you all, the icons themselves are a privilege hard-earned!

These days, Mordor is overrun with preparations for the upcoming games of 'Olympic proportions' also known as the 'Dark Games', beginning November 1st. As part of the prep work, there have been a series of short games for thread running minions to test themselves and their victims… err… athletes set up.

Elsewhere in Mordor, the delightful terror that seems to run around Mordor, inciting people, seems to have arrived in the 'Evil? You? *cackles*' thread, a pre-Olympic personality test to see just how evil the peoples of Mordor truly are. Do you really want to know?

Finally, the One Ring has been stolen, by Winddancer, no less. And it's the minions' job to capture her in Tunnels of Terror. As a reward for those minions that do capture her, they are allowed to live!

  Rivendell
Busy, Busy Elves...
Rivendell Ærendboda: Idesinholdè & Silformona: Feranfolcs

Well, the celebration of the Enedhoer Festival is wrapping up in October, with most of the competitions ending and winners being declared:

For the Horse Races, the Rider Rossilíndë took first, followed by Webit (of the Shire) and Viktor Xavier (of Gondor). Another one of our very own, Boo Radley (Twin Demon) won the Rivendell Enedhoer Archery Competition- a three-way tie with Samuraielf, and Elron Qel Droma. There was also the Barrel Racing Contest, won by Thom Greenleaf and a Cooking Competition, won by Ancalima* (followed by Webit in second, and our very own Searogim tied with Mor Olnathron in third). And in the Hunting Contest Soronúmë placed first followed by Firien Echui, and Elvinhome. Winners are still be decided for the Wood Carving Contest and the Obstacle Course which are still in session.

As with all other kingdoms, Rivendell is preparing for the Middle Earth Olympics. Their signing up thread is full, and contests are being run for banner designs and Olympic correspondents.

While The Last Alliance continues to battle it out at Dagorlad, back home a newbie RP training has begun, called A Scouting Expedition. This is an excellent way for newbies to RPGs, to get some experience.

Dol Guldur -The Necromancer's Tower, is in full swing right now. There are 25 players, of all races, and they are to attempt to conquer the fortress of Dol Guldur. There will be 10 challenges each along the way. Some will be puzzles; some will be tests of knowledge. There is a 48 hours posting time limit, from the time the challenge is posted. If you don't make the time limit, you are out of the game. Lilu Pereldar is running the activity.

It seems they once again feasting in Rivendell, a feast of the First Snowfall. The Menu looks delicious, and fun is to be had, as with the first snowfall comes the obligatory snowball fights.

  The Shire
A Shortcut to Mushrooms, and So Much More...
The Shire Ærendboda: Goldmoon: Feranfolc

Welcome to your monthly report done by none other than Goldmoon who is very nervous due to this being her first report. There has been a lot going on in the shire this month and getting on with it let me say this. "Welcome all Proudfoots and feets, hope you enjoy!"

This month we watched as preparations were made for the grand opening of the Harvest Ball. The occasion to mark the end of the growing season and the approach of Autumn and Winter. There is singing, dancing, music, food, and a special foot washing by one Golden Elf. The unfortunate elf was caught in a kidnapping attempt upon poor Rosie and ended up with this job as punishment. All visitors who belong to the Shire Organization are allowed to attend. There is quite a wonderful time to be had there. There was also a Harvest Poetry Contest with the winner, Maurachel, reciting his winning contribution as well. A Harvest Art Contest is currently underway with judges Sam and Rosie yet to announce the winner.

Onto more news we have The Shire Jeopardy Game, which is finishing round one as we speak. The top three teams will advance to round two.

Also going on, a new game called "A Middle Earth Game: Who Am I." People are given a one-word clue to Middle Earth characters. They can ask two questions each. The person who answers correctly gets to provide the next clue.

For more entertaining news we have the ongoing and most silliest: "Produced in the Shire: TV Shows and Films Made in Middle Earth." This is a funny thread where all from any kingdom can adapt a TV show or film to Middle Earth.

The Periannath Walking Club is still on its way to the seashore. Now in it's fourth thread, only
1/4 of the way there, the Hobbits and friends will for the first time get to see waves, sand, and beaches. A most exciting experience to say the least!

On a sadder note, we also saw the leaving of Marigold, because of illness. Taking her place as Deputy Sherriff is the one and only Emmi-Lou Bloom.

And in celebration of a second year anniversary for Rusur, a pub was opened, Shire Pub of Robust Rusur’s Recent Anniversary, where alliteration is the name of the game as one has to use as many words beginning with the letter R as possible, quite the challenge for local wordsmiths.

Well there you have it my friends. All in a hobbit-sized nutshell. Twas an interesting month for me in the Shire and to be involved with reporting the coming and goings of the periannath. I have enjoyed it tremendously. Until next time. Your roaming reporter, Goldmoon!

  White Council
Life and Times of the Istari
White Council Ærendboda: Penny Ærdæg & Otori Takeo: Feranfolcs

An Arda-shattering decision is being made this month in the White Council. The opportunity to change the name of the kingdom has been presented, and the wizards are casting their ballots. So far, suggestions for a new name have ranged from simply "Isengard" to "The Istari- Emissaries of the Valar." It appears that, at this point, a final decision is still quite far off, but be sure to keep an eye out (or a palantir).

Ever wonder if Lady Éowyn faced consequences for sneaking into the army of the Rohirrim and impersonating a soldier? Ever have your doubts about whether or not she's a natural blonde? Puzzle no more, for Éowyn is on trial in the White Council! Eowyn's attorney, Mithhen, is doing her best to present a strong case, as the presiding judges throw small objects at each other and observers eat popcorn and hand out buttons reading "Guilty as Sin" or "Keep an Éopen Mind." Drop in and support your queen in her fight for blonde liberty and freedom of impersonation!

In honor of Barrow-Wights Ween, the Wizards have opened a Tricks and Treats Shop! Arrange to send a delicious treat to a friend, such as Dead Marshes Toffee or Spicy Balrog Brains. Or you can deliver a surprise to a foe (or friend, for that matter…) such as a batch of Orc's Blood Pudding or Elf Fingers!

The Spooky Spirit has taken over other aspects of WC life as well! Drop by the Old Angren Street Market for a bit of trick-or-treating. The costumes are fantastic, so make sure you dress up to blend in! Over at Music Mages and Poetry Potentates, Derom Simalókë has challenged the wordy wizards to write creepy poetry for Halloween.

Also at MM&PP, but on a less sinister note, an Anthology Across the Ages project has been announced by Derom. He has been working on the anthology for quite some time now. It contains poetry collected by wizards and former wizards, and covers a time span of over 1000 years. Also included are notes and essays complied by wizards, as commentary on the collected poems. This already-impressive collection will be continued indefinitely and promises to be a great accomplishment of many dedicated wizards.

As usual I arrived late, this time to an interview with Grey Pilgrim and Arwe Thereyet the two new appointed rulers of the White Council, Gandalf and Saruman, respectively. I have never had such a wonderful experience. I enjoyed every bit of the interview and here it is for you all to enjoy as well. I hope you have a blast just like I had. My favorite quote from the interview was: "Grey Pilgrim: many colours means you can wear anything, no clashing."

Rædboda: Given Elen's and Philth's double resignations, did the two of you know ahead of time you'd be working with each other? And if so, did you two fight it out to see who would become Gandalf and who would be Saruman?
GreyPilgrim: We did, yep... we were working in secret with each other before they resigned in public. Arwe, did we fight? lol
Arwe Thereyet: Only over the chocolate. Imagine, making me share.
GreyPilgrim: She doesn't offer you know. I have to ask.

Rædboda: So is washing Grima's hair one of your official duties as Saruman??
Arwe Teyereht: Naw, all the ex-Saruman's and I did it to punish him.

Rædboda: So Geep, did you have a chance to wash Grima's hair as well, in the short time you were Saruman?
GreyPilgrim: Why do you think it was so greasy when Arwe got the icon?
Arwe Thereyet: You can imagine the pain of seeing Grima's greasy hair, when one does so much to keep one's own hair so nice and soft and shiny.

Rædboda: Or would you call it a rite of initiation for all new Sarumans?
GreyPilgrim: I knew I was only temporary, that week was spent using up all the aloe vera hair care products before Arwe got the key to the beauty cupboard.
Arwe Thereyet: And I inherited all those hair products! Some are clear back from LeBob. He was definitely compulsive

Rædboda: Lady Saruman, why did you decide to join the White Council? Should the Kingdom change the name to Black Council or will you be a nice Saruman... not like the one in Tolkien's books?
Arwe Thereyet: I pondered being an Elf, but there were too many. I thought for a moment on Gondor, but Gandalf was always my favorite character, and the power along with immortality was just too much a siren call. Me nice? Sometimes. Sometimes bad, but that never seems to work out like I want it to.

Rædboda: Lady Gandalf, was it your obsession with Orome that made you come up with your own name? The clever ruse to come up with Grey Pilgrim in the hope that you'd be nicknamed Geep, and thus imitating your secret crush Peeg?
GreyPilgrim: Nah, I'm Peeg's dyslexic twin. At the time I thought Grey Pilgrim was a very original way to be called gandalf. *cough* Orome's pretty cool, but before I came into Middle Earth he was always blowing that horn in my ear.

Rædboda: So, it was your plot all along to become gandalf?
GreyPilgrim: Just a freaky coincidence. Any rumours about past Gandalfs being poisoned are strictly not true. Gandalf is my favourite character, it's amazing for me that I get to play him

Rædboda: Another question for Lady Saruman, could you explain to us the meaning of your character name, Arwe Thereyet?
GreyPilgrim: It's Arwe's attempt at a deep and profound meaning.

Arwe Thereyet: Uhhh.... meaning? Well, I'd just like to know when I get there, you know? Sometimes things get a little blurred.
GreyPilgrim: If she shared her chocolate, she wouldn't have this problem.

We even had time for a little Chocolate Break…
Rædboda: *Offers chocolate.* I have plenty, so here. *g*
Arwe Thereyet: Gimme, gimme. You can never have enough.

Rædboda: Arwe, when you leave the car for pitstops, make sure you don't leave your chocolate in the car, otherwise it'll melt.
Arwe Thereyet: Breaks off a small piece for Geeps.

Rædboda: See, you do have a nice side when you're not obsessing over that ring. *looks at crumb and wonders how Arwe could call that "a piece."
Arwe Thereyet: It's in a mildly refrigerated metal trunk with three locks. I do have a nice side, I do!

After that the interview continued…
Rædboda: Question for Geeps, out of curiosity how many times did you change your name?
GreyPilgrim: I lost count... I think it was 18. But they were all to do with my original name, apart from happy_hobbit (a joke for Endy), Elfwine (joke for Meduseld) and .... on Halloween
Arwe Thereyet: This will take her a while... Her memory's not as good as it once was.
GreyPilgrim: Bah! I could list them, but they're dull! All Geeperwine, Grey Furby, Grey Ber, EoGrey Pilgrim...

Rædboda: Well, 3000 years walking middle earth will do that.
Arwe Thereyet: I offered her a ride, but no...
GreyPilgrim: But you never stop asking if we're nearly there! It drives me up the wall!
Arwe Thereyet: Well, I want to know! What if I miss it?
GreyPilgrim: Arwe, if we get there, I'll gladly push you out.
Arwe Thereyet: Uhh... thanks... I think

Rædboda: Did you guys get to move up to the top floor?
Arwe Thereyet: Was on the top floor, those stairs are murder! What was I thinking?

Rædboda: Perhaps you should have learned to make elevators. *g*
Arwe Thereyet: Now I'm Saruman, am going to start up industry again and invent the elevator.

Rædboda: Well when the stairs are murder you could always ask an Ent for help?
GreyPilgrim: By the time that Treebeard gets here you've already climbed them all.
Arwe Thereyet: They grumble about the low ceilings. A new Uruk-hai army could carry us.

Rædboda: Nods wisely.
Arwe Thereyet: *Makes a note to start production.*
GreyPilgrim: Arwe, if you start that again I'll confiscate your palantir!
Arwe Thereyet: Where's the Numenoreans when you need them? Has it hidden. *cackle* In locked box with chocolate.
GreyPilgrim: Don't think I don't know about the secret cupboard in the linen closet!

Rædboda: A question for both of you. What is your best plaza memory?....I mean this is basically a question for Geeps since Arwe still isn't there yet. *g*
GreyPilgrim: Ack, so cruel! I have a billion amazing memories! Let me think...
Arwe Thereyet: There are so many! But Wizard's chess is up there, because it was my first game, and being inducted into the Order of Merlin, ackk! There's just too many.
GreyPilgrim: Wizard's Chess came to my mind too, same with the Order of Merlin. Becoming Gandalf was certainly nice *g*, but I think the first time someone responded to my post in my first quest I was on top of Arda!
Arwe Thereyet: Wizard's Chess, I guess, because it went over so well, and I was so nervous about it, and it was the beginning of all the rest and it was my first thread!
GreyPilgrim: Wizard's Chess was amazing, funniest game I ever played

Rædboda: Geep, were you ever an SCR? Or just a tribute rank? I know Arwe was like Utchluk or something like that.
Arwe Thereyet: Yeah I was Ugluk and Geeps was Shadowfax

Rædboda: Yeah, you stole our horsie.
Arwe Thereyet: [I] kept startling her to see her rear.

Rædboda: To knock Elen off her?
Arwe Thereyet: *As in jump.
GreyPilgrim: And El had already warned me not to kick out.

Rædboda: Questions for both again: Do you remember your first day, and how did you spent it? If you still remember... how did you feel when you wrote your first post?
GreyPilgrim: I have no idea, sorry! All I remember is the election thread for Ferry to become Gandalf, then him scaring me so I hung out in the Shire for my first 2 months.
Arwe Thereyet: I remember it well. It was my first place like this on the internet (is still my only one) mostly I just read stuff. I was totally scared to post and after I posted, but kept coming back to see if anyone answered me. It was in the Istari newbie center.

Rædboda: Another question for both of you, what is your favourite thing about the Plaza? What's the thing you like the least on the plaza?
GreyPilgrim: Favourite thing? That's easy, the wizards! They're a great bunch of people, and I love them to bits.
Arwe Thereyet: Yes, the wizards! Wouldn't be here without them and a few good foreigners!
GreyPilgrim: Darn tootin'! Although, it's remarkably good fun to hide Saruwe's palantir remote. Plus I get to blame it on the house elves and the mini uruk hai.
Arwe Thereyet: The worst thing is the people who just come in to try to tear the place down, or make trouble. *Now where is that remote.* After all the Plaza is about the people, and Tolkien, of course. But without the people, we'd be reading Tolkien alone in our rooms.
GreyPilgrim: Getting paper cuts and stressing over the falling out pages.
Arwe Thereyet: And [also] finding a cool part and having no one to share it with!
GreyPilgrim: Yes! We need to know we're not the only sane people in this crazy world!
Arwe Thereyet: Or no one to tell you just who Tom Bombadil is!
GreyPilgrim: Or whether balrogs fly!
Arwe Thereyet: Hate working those things out on my own or worse still... never wondered.

Rædboda: Well you could always ask Gandalf after all he fought a balrog.
GreyPilgrim: That was before I turned white, memory is a bit fuzzy from then.

Rædboda: One last question from me: Is there anything you think one should know about you? Or do you feel the need to kill a rider after this interview? I love hard questions. *grins evilly*
Arwe Thereyet: I might take a shot at Miny for asking the hard ones.
GreyPilgrim: Things to know about Geep... Yes, she will ALWAYS accept free chocolate.

Rædboda: Well great rulers of the White Council, thank you for your time.
Arwe Thereyet: Hey, that was my answer! She's always stealing my answers - just because she types faster than me. You are very welcome.

*Otori runs off to his trusty steed before getting hit by Saruman.*
