The Cavalry of the Mark

About the Cavalry

The Elite Cavalry of the Mark is the official army for the Kingdom of Rohan. It is one of the plaza's oldest and most respected organisations, and it has long been an integral part of the Riddermark Kingdom.

Joining the Cavalry is often a great achievement for any rider, because unlike other organisations or RPG groups, you must pass both an enlistment exam and training to become a fully fledged member of the Cavalry. But once you have finished your training, you will be able to take part in all of the activites, RPGs and events that are exclusively for Cavalry riders.
These can include training opportunities, the Cavalry pub, military responsibilities around the Kingdom and sometimes even going to war with another Kingdom. The different ranks and achievements also mean that loyal and hard-working cavalry warriors could be promoted to more influential and important roles within the cavalry.

The highest rank in the cavalry is 'Marshal', and these are the Cavalry Commanders - outranked only by the King and Queen themselves.
There are three Marshals in the Cavalry, and they are the people who run and organise the Cavalry. The current Cavalry Marshals are Įllącan Beorhtlig, Imbeannowyn and Elarith, and to contact them about any questions, queries or problems you might have, simply e-mail them at cavalrymarshals@fastmail.fm

Cavalry Rules

Within the Cavalry, General Plaza and Riddermark Kingdom Rules apply. However, there are also some additional rules that each cavalry member needs to follow:

~ The Cavalry is a Rider only organisation. Only Riddermark kingdom members or ex-Rider Admins may serve with the Cavalry.

~ All riders must swear the Cavalry Oath when they join the Cavalry (before your training begins). This oath states that you will be loyal to the Cavalry and the Riddermark, will not join any other army*, will respect the chain of command and will be honourable and just in war. This oath is on-plaza and in-character.

~ All Cavalry riders should include their rank in their signature and keep their signatures turned on in all Cavalry threads. This is so that we can see who you are and which Eored (regiment) you serve with. Cavalry trainees should put 'cavalry trainee' in their signature.

~ Only Cavalry members may post in Cavalry threads unless given express permission by one of the Marshals. The exception of this is the Dragon Room, where non-Cavalry riders may post about a Cavalry related topic.

~ With regard to training and the Cavalry enlistment exam - do not cheat by helping other people or getting others to cheat for you. The exam and training is there not just to test you, but to help you learn and develop your character. It is often a major highlight in people's Cavalry careers, and if you cheat then you will not enjoy this experience as much, and you are not being fair on all the many people who have worked so hard.

~ Obey the chain of command

~ The Cavalry generally expects its members to be active, but if you are going to be abent or inactive for some time, please let the Marshals know. This way we can help you when you return and you will not be punished for going absent without leave (AWOL).

~ Show respect for your commanders and comrades, everyone deserves to be treated fairly.

* Other Kingdom armies are strictly forbidden. However, house organisations or RPG forum armies are sometimes acceptable, but you will need permission from one of the Marshals. If you are unsure about whether your house organisation or military group is allowed, please contact the Marshals at cavalrymarshals@fastmail.fm

Breaking any of these rules could result in loss of rank, re-training and, in extreme cases, suspension or expulsion from the Cavalry. But we look at intent along with action, so if you break the rules by accident, you will not be punished.

Want to join the cavalry?

Prospective recruits must go through three stages before they become a full-fledged member of the cavalry. Each of these is designed to better prepare you for your life in the cavalry, and to ensure that you have the dedication and passion to become a warrior for the Riddermark. Many riders feel that joining the cavalry was one of their most enjoyable experiences, and others say the tests and training were some of the most fun and challenging activities they have taken part in. So try and enjoy this journey, it is worth savouring:

Stage One: Take the Cavalry Enlistment Exam
Click on the link below to be taken to the cavalry enlistment exam. You will need to submit your completed exam for assessment, and if you achieve the 80% necassary, you will be contacted about the next stages of becoming a cavalry rider.

Stage Two: Take the Cavalry Oath
Upon passing your exam, you will need to take the cavalry oath, which can be found in this thread. You should only take this oath once you have passed your exam, and be sure to do it before you begin training.

Stage Three: Complete Cavalry Training
When you pass your exam, you will be delegated to a Larmęgister (Cavalry Trainer) who will have the responsibility of teaching you the skills you will need for the cavalry. Once you have made your oath, you can report to your training thread to continue.

Once you have completed all three of these stages, you will be presented with the rank of Dryhtguma. You will then only need to post in the Cavalry Headquarters, the Dragon Room, and choose which Eored you wish to become a member of. Your future marshal will then assign you to a coršor and add your name to the roster. This will make you a fully fledged cavalry warrior, and you will be able to take part in all cavalry activities!

Good luck!
