Or bookshelves, as it were. The big one of mine contains fiction, antiques, history, medicine, art and fashion; the small one baseball.

My copy of LotR is at my parents' house in NJ, as is the majority of my book collection.

Hehe, Firi and I were just discussing our dream bookcases - before we realised your thread existed. Which is either creepy or shows great minds think alike. I'll let you decide which.

Like your funky bookcase in the second picture! I'll take a few shots of mine tomorrow. They're not as pretty as yours though. I have to ask - are they alphabetised and sorted by subject?

That's a great idea, I always wanted to see other people's bookshelves.

In my case it is a bit complicated, because I have a lot of books lying on my desk (Hesse's Poetry)/around my bed(Canterbury Tales)/in the living room (The Return of the King)/in random bags (Native Son). But anyway. Here are the three main spots...

    1. The Cupboard. Has doors, which explains the mess. has m old children books and huge encyclopedias. The lower shelf has no doors, so it has some more important-looking nicer books, which were some time ago sorted by size.

    2. Shelf for my favourite/more often used books, featuring Tolkien, Harry Potter, Eragon and so on.

And the remaining books are on those two small things...

Elarith: mine are organized by subject, and within subject organized by height, except history, which is arranged chronologically, and in fiction I try to keep all works by the same author together.

Nice bookcases!I'd take a picture of mine, except all my books are in boxes since I had to pack them up until I head back to college, but I have my favorites in a suitcase that I can take a picture of...

Lovely ideaI'm moving in a month, but I figured I better post some of my pics, just to show that not all plazaites are that organised
My main bookcase, the books peaking out to the right are J's.
These are a mix of fiction, reference works and books bought for university:

The main bookcase is wide enough to allow two rows of book on each shelf.
Guess someone at IKEA must be a booklover too!

The upper half of the bookcase is actually pretty neat:

    The lower half isnt:

    Cook books and magazines:
    More books:

The teddy bears are guarding these ones:
Finally I show proper respect for the University library books I am using for my master's.
Yes, they are in a box on the floor:

I'm in the middle of packing for my move so my bookshelf is empty. I'll have to take a photo once I'm moved and unpacked in a couple of weeks. *g*

This is a great idea! Whenever I see a picture in a magazine that has a bookcase in the background I immediately turn the page sideways so I can inspect their shelves. I've got to retake photos of mine since I've added a lot since last time I photographed them. Watch this space.

I might as well get into the act. Here is the "main" shelf...

    And here is the "secondary"...

A bookshelf with books and booze is even better

Please get your priorities right-you must surely mean:

A bookshelf with booze and books is even better(Aquavit and Carlsberg Special Brew chasers give a totally new dimension to the reading experience!)

He that would foil me must use such weapons as I do, for I have not fed my readers with straw, neither will I be confuted with stubble.

  15. [clean code] #15
I hate Aquavit and we always drink Tuborg in my part of DK, never Carlsberg. I may try it next time I am stuck in some evil linguistics book though, guess it doesn't get much worse than functional grammar.

    Finally found my camera cord...

The big bookshelf in my room; it has most of my favorite fiction, random nonfiction, and also my snake, who was being unusually photogenic.

    The left side...

    The right side...

Many years of sheet music and music books, and apparently a random textbook about Machu Picchu.

Spare room, aka badly organized miniature library...here's more nonfiction and some old comics.

Less frequently-read fiction, and duplicate copies of a few books.

Awkward angle of sewing stuff, more fiction, and miscellaneous who-knows-what.

Living room shelves. Not all of these are mine, but I'm pretty sure they're impossible to sort out.

More comics, of the newspaper funnies variety.

Top two rows are oversize hardbacks and cookbooks...

Bottom two rows are more oversize stuff and a set of 1994 encyclopedias that I'm way too nostalgic to part with.

Phew...I think that's everything, except for more boxes of books packed away in the attic and anything currently in circulation around the house.

Wow Menolly that's a lot of books! I see you have two of the 1977 Hardback Silmariliion and both of them have a dustjacket in much better shape than mine!

Kyung - the snake, oddly enough, hasn't shown any interest in reading, so I can't imagine he'll mind if you borrow something. Judging by the packed IKEA bookcase, you have quite a collection yourself!

    Taur
    - I'll loan you one of my copies if I can have a bit of the booze stocked on your bookshelves.

Wow Menolly lots of books and a reptile to guard them.

I thought this was funny. I was taking a picture of my most orderly bookshelves in my office and my dog Maddie walked in and sat down as if she was looking for some good reading.

She wants to doeverything I do Menolly. It would never surprise me to see her trying to read. I think her taste would run toward "The Call of the Wild" though.

I got these LOTR bookends online. One side shows Gandalf knocking on the door. The other bookend shows Bibo about to open the door. Excuse the dust on my shelf.

I love those bookends, Brandy! I always wanted the Argonath ones that came with some super fancy special edition DVD set of FotR, but yours are even better, and much more hobbity.

For some reason, it also makes me giggle to see that Gandalf is knocking on the Darwin Awards.

    You mean these bookends?

I still want the Sideshow No Admittance bookends like Brandy has, I'm very jealous!

Nowadays, I keep my Tolkien books down here under my goodies.....

I have not seen these signed labels before, can you give any more information on the event that you got them from?

You can see more of my bookshelf's if you click on my signature or http://www.tolkienlibrary.com/collec...rs/Trotter.htm, but this is my favourite signed item

The event was the Fellowship Festival in England (I forgot which one of them) and they are pretty unique as they are sorta business cards stuck into the books. It was Royd Tolkien that brought them, he got his granddad Christopher to sign them as he couldnt come. I have completely forgotten who the other autograph belongs to :( I think in all there were only like 10? Maybe 20?

The convention (Fellowship Festival) is not done anymore as the one who did the others sorta didnt pay the actors as promised or something like that. There is no official site for it.

But HOLY COW that is definitely one awesome collection! I can see you are getting different kinds of the same one, in different languages? Got one in danish!?? Wait even I dont have one in danish.. mine are all in english..

All my books are in English, sadly no Danish books as I only collect UK Editions.

The other autograph on your copy is Ted Nasmith who is the illustrator of your copy of The Silmarillirion.

Great stuff, Trotter. I'm sure that there are many other treasures in your collection that I'd kill for but one of the gems that I recognized was your copy of CoH, the blue one with CT's signature. Always wanted that one.

Actually the other hardback Children of Hurin's on my bookshelves are also signed by Christopher Tolkien and Alan Lee from when I attended the launch event for the book at Waterstones in London

I envy you guys who have such a lot of space for books.... well I'll show you my fiction books first, since I've managed to put them into every nook and cranny i could find in my room and my study....

My bedroom bookshelves. If you have really good eyesight you would notice there are three copies of Pride and Prejudice on the upper bookshelf (I have DVDs there as well) ...

Fiction and historical books.... and my pride and joy are next...the Tolkien books and DVDs since I will not trust my precious DVDs in the living room, and I don't have a DVD storage unit yet (I forgot where I put my HoME books so hmm)

The books I'm currently reading i.e. The Hobbit and North and South, and a few guilty pleasure books (i.e. girlie literature) plus my collection of CDs....

So going upstairs to the study...

Gollum is guarding the twilight books...(what a waste of money). A few of the books are missing because I just lent them to my cousin
    Now some more girlie books...
I'll post pictures of my pharmacy books later, because they are scattered all over the place

I like the Phillipa Gregory books I see, Bel and Aisil. I'm reading The Constant Princess right now. I really liked Virgin Queen and the Other Boleyn Girl.
I would post mine, but most of my books are in boxes because I have to share the bookshelf with my boyfriend, and we have no room for another. *dramatic sigh*
